Hi. I did not sign a contract yet but they are putting it together now. Mind you this is my first assignment and I am going from Phila to Buffalo. Does 45/hr with me finding the housing sound right? Thats what I was told, but will receive the contract today. The recruiter said it would be 28/hr if they supplied accomadations.

What should I be asking for also? Is there usually reimbursement for travel? I know I am getting a 1000 bonus upon completion. I just dont know what to look for since this is my first assignment and new to me.

Thanks,

Tim

$45 is decent. But who knows where that number comes from and how it will be broken up (it might include your completion bonus which is effectively $2 an hour). $27 plus housing sounds bad but upstate NY pays poorly. $18 for housing is excessive, but they may be trying hard to get you to do the work - is this Supplemental by any chance? Travel reimbursement is the norm, but may be coming out of your total. The usual travel reimbursement is $500/600 from most agencies, but it must be limited by 55.5 cents a mile max. In your case, it must be less because you are not going that far.

Tim,

Have you checked on the cost of housing? A lot of places won't rent for short term and you will need furnished. Beware of Craigslist rentals too, if they're too good to be true, they are! Check on the Delphi Forum Nursing Travel board for nurses that have been to that area.

I found an awesome studio for 600 a month furnished with all utilities included(no internet though) and 2.7 miles from the hospital. Well, the agency actually set it up for me. Its a corporate housing facility. Housing is cheap in Buffalo.

Thanks!

Ned,

Can you PM me your number if thats ok? It sounds like you know the ropes and I wanted to go over my contract with you to make sure I am not getting screwed. If I think I am can I try to negotiate for more with them? I didnt sign it yet. Anyway, if its ok with you I would like to talk to someone as this is my first assignment and know nothing of what should be right or wrong.

Thanks!

Try putting in the numbers from your offer into the Travelers Calculator on PanTravelers and reporting the results. We might be able to lend some insight. Mind you, as an untested traveler, you just are not as valuable (and risky) to an agency. Don't expect to make as much as an experienced traveler. Consider the first couple of assignments to be a learning experience.

What facility in Buffalo? I just started a contract with CHS. First time traveler, so can't offer much insight. I'm simply staying with friends during my scheduled shifts, then drive home on my chucnks of days off.
