The nurse's that are striking have one concern, their reimbursements (pay, benefits, ets), so what makes them better than the "scabs"? Besides, the longer the hospitals have to pay high agency strike wages, the sooner they will settle. This has been going on for centuries. Its not like they can send the patients home and close down, it isn't your Grandpa's steel mill, SOMEBODY has to take care of the patients!

Most cruise lines are owned and based in the Bahamas and other countries. I don't know of any owned by American companies. So if their home offices are based out of the country, why not Skype? I'm sure its to make sure you are personable. That is more important to cruise companies than being skinny or cute.

Tim, Have you checked on the cost of housing? A lot of places won't rent for short term and you will need furnished. Beware of Craigslist rentals too, if they're too good to be true, they are! Check on the Delphi Forum Nursing Travel board for nurses that have been to that area.

A couple things you need to consider, you will only be compensated for the cost of one person (you) as far as per diem which is a daily cost of living reimbursement, usually around $35/day. That is considered part of your pay. For instance, you may be offered $25/hr plus $35 day per diem, ($245 a week) that is non taxable IF you have a tax home. Which according to your statement that you live with family, you do not. So it will be taxed. You will either recieve housing, usually a one bedroom apartment, or take the subsidy, amount depends on the area you go to and then you would have to find your own place. I wouldn't recommend doing that on your first assignment. My husband travels with me, but he's a massage therapist so he can usually find work. Your pay could range from $850 a week on up, or maybe even lower and an apartment to live in (make sure they pay utilities. If you can live with this.. you should be fine.
