UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

How difficult is the reading section? How did you scored on that section. Reading is usually my weakness. How much studying did you have to put out?

If you are applying to UTHSC SON, they look for individual scores, 75% or plus in all sections and at least a 750 on CT. Here's the pdf:

I want to take it, but I haven't put much time into doing so since I have been taking a maymester course. How much did you study from start to end?

Hi Felecia I am applying to the 3 nursing schools in Houston: PVAMU, Uthsc, and TWU. Last year I took the TEAS for TWU, but the other two school require Hesi A2. I have done all my pre-reqs, but haven't taken the HESI. How much have you study for the Hesi? And what books did you used?[/quote']

Hi! I haven't actually taken my HESI yet, but here is what I've been using to study:

I also purchased the study guide that Elsevier recommends, but I didn't find it much help at all.

Another good resource for particular topics that you may need review on is the Khan Academy videos. They have an app or you can watch the videos on YouTube. Their videos saved my butt in Chemistry last semester!

I hope this helps you out. Sorry it's so long. :)

I made a 90 on the reading so it was one of my worst, but only because it was so long and tedious. It was one of the longest sections for me. I studied but not too much

And I started studying in January but really hit it hard for about 3 weeks a couple hours a day. It was worth it. I wouldn't go in unprepared. I used the elsevier study guide which was helpful and also used the hesi practice tests from Barnes and noble. All were helpful in every section except A&P that was my lowest section because I had not yet taken A&P 2 and I studied on my own and it was mostly A&P 2 and all very random!

I sent in my application yesterday and got myUTH portal today. I already had to call to get "proof of previous BS degree" taken off, now I have TSI satisfaction on there. I know mine is done because I graduated high school with it. They have my current transcripts from UTA, doesn't that have on there that my TSI is complete. Anyone else having this problem? Should I call again to get it taken off?

Sorry Megan, but I don't know! I actually haven't submitted my application because I am waiting to take my HESI. I did send over transcripts though. I imagine that I'm going to have all sorts of trouble also getting everything cleared in the portal.

Oh and I've got a bit of info that I just received from the registrar that I wanted to pass along. When I started my application, there was an item listed on my To-Do List that stated I needed to submit my TSI score. I had no clue what this was, so I emailed the registrar and they replied back that this is the entrance exam that you take before starting your prereq's and the scoring info would be listed on your transcript, so not to worry about it. So glad that's one less thing I have to worry about![/quote']

Here ya go Megan. I was confused too!

Thank you so much for that! As soon as I posted it was actually taken off so now all I have is my official hesi scores to be put in and my last transcript after this summer!

Sorry to be bugging you guys again, but has anyone that has a myUTH account been able to change their password? Mine is this long random thing they gave me and I can't find a way to change it!

If anyone knows, I'd like to know also. I've looked all over and can't find a way either.

English is my second language. When I took TEAS, I couldn't finish the reading part in time. Therefore, I am worried about my HESI. A friend told me that I can choose any part to start, such as math or A&P. It counts total 4 hours, but does not separate from each part. Is it true? Or just like TEAS, each part is independent. I am afraid that I cannot finish the reading and CT in time. One more question, Can I skip the difficult question and go back later? Thank you for your helping and good luck for everyone!
