UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Greetings!

I am applying to UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013. Anybody else?

I am just curious if anyone has any info out there to help me as I missed the information session this month.

Does anyone know the stats of the acceptance to this program? I just want to know if I even stand a chance in getting in.

1. What was the average GPA accepted last cohort? Average HESI score?

2. Is there an interview?

Thanks!!

I went to one of the information sessions and here's what I understood from it:

They wouldn't give the average HESI scores or GPA from the last entering class BUT they did say that anything over a 3.5 GPA and anything over an 800 on the HESI is competitive. They seemed to put special emphasis on the Critical Thinking component of the HESI, so they especially want something over an 800 on that.

There is NO interview, and they also said not to bother with putting related experience or references on the application because they strictly look at your GPA and HESI scores.

What I also learned from the info session is that they receive the HESI scores on the last day of every month (or maybe even every 2 weeks-cannot remember). I just remember them saying that they would get December's scores on the next business day after the 31st because I'm taking my test the 22nd.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you so much for the info!! I am scheduled to take my HESI this Wednesday and all I can do is try to do my best esp the CT part bc my GPA is not competitive. Shot in the dark but I already applied last minute but does not hurt to try!

I also forgot to add that they send out letters of acceptance on April 15th. They said they wouldn't put this information on the My UTH portal for people like me who would love to check it everyday after January 15th haha.

Haha, this would be me too... I wonder if the check marks will change like past semesters though? People found out a few days earlier that way. :)

Hey Carla,

Do you have any info in regards to the 5 credit elective? I was curious because I had a class here and there with As/Bs and 5 credits is an odd number since most classes are either 3 or 4 credit (science courses with labs). Do you know how they pick your elective? I know under the elective list it specifies "nursing, remedial and physical education classes will not count."

Thanks!!

From what I understand any class that is not a pre req for another class or for a nursing course is counted towards elective. Like for example my bio 1406 won't count because it is considered a pre req for microbiology. I am taking college algebra and a speech class next semester to count towards the elective requirement so that would count for 6 hours. But I would call and check with an advisor to make sure!

Also, I think they will take courses with your highest grade if you have multiple classes that would count towards the elective but I would make sure to double check with them.

I sure will!! Just wish the advisor were quick to respond like participants on this forum lol. Thanks for the info!

Also, I just took my HESI yesterday and does Prometric send our results directly to the UTHSC?

Only if that is the school you took the test through. I took my test through A&M so I had to call Elsiver to have my score sent to UTHSC for a fee.

Sol, when you log in to take the exam it shows all the sections and you get to choose which ones you take and decide which ones you take first. After each section is completed your score shows on the main menu with all the sections so you know what you score as you go along! Good luck! :)

Thanks carlajeanx3!

I just took the test this morning. I don't know what to say but it's all true as everyone has commenting. Math, Reading, and Grammar was easy for me. I did horrible on Vocabulary (something I expected since the test content on this one is so random. I don't know about my chance of getting in with this low score on Vocab). A&P was ok. Critical Thinking was just basically what you think what is necessary to do. I did not prepare much for CT. Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.93

HESI score: Math: 96, Reading and Grammar both 92, A&P: 88, Vocab: 74, and Critical Thinking 800

I tried to look up again at the requirement on HESI score but apparently the school has removed the page from their website.
