UTA Online Academic Partnership BSN Program - Dallas Hospitals

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Hello-

I have just learned about this the online (entire program including pre-req courses) ap bsn program at uta. I read about this on another uta thread but it was not as clear as it was explained today to me. This is similar to the twu weekend bsn program; however, the difference is you will conduct your clinicals at the hospital where you are employed. No matter what position/status where you work (partnered hospital), you can participate in this program at a discounted rate. So far, I believe uta partnered with parkland, baylor and thr but I believe the thr program is different. uta/thr partnership offers full financial support (tuition, fees, and books) by thr for the 2nd bacc bsn program. The ap bsn program only offers you a discount but you would need to use either scholarships or tuition reimbursement from your employer (hospital). :twocents:

I am so impressed with the fact that the entire program is online and it is estimated to take 18 months to complete (again including all pre-courses). The program is laid out great because you can take all pre-req sciences (except gen chem), psychology courses, stats and other pre-reqs online; your clinicals can be worked out with the clinical partnership manager. Since I work full-time in a non-clinical area, weekends would be so much better for me to participate in my clinicals. I believe the manager will be flexible with me on clinicals b/c we work closely together on a weekly basis.

I can start earlier with this program compared to the twu weekend program. Some pre-req courses are only 5-8 weeks long so you can complete your pre-reqs faster and courses are offered more than traditional program.

I would highly recommend this program for any career changes, who cannot afford to stop working full-time but have the desire to change careers into nursing. :redbeathe Go to www.uta.edu/nursing click on prospective students, click academic partnership, click on academic partnership under bsn program and read more about the opportunity.

Please note: you do not have to work at a hospital to be admitted into this program. Once you are admitted into the junior/senior level of the nursing program, uta will coordinate a clinical site for you at one of their partnership hospitals.

Is there anyone out who have started the ap bsn program either fall 2009 or spring 2010? I would love to hear how things are going in the online courses (whether you just started pre-req courses or you are taking the nursing courses).

I hope this has have been helpful information for those of you who really need flexibility while in the 2nd bsn fast track/accelerator program.

look forward to your response!

So I just spoke to my advisor yesterday. She said they have high application rates. They take 100 people and had 700 people apply for this fall. That doesn't really bother me because just because people applied does not mean they were eligible to start the program or had the grades.

My main question is if anyone has a bachelor degree from UTA? I do. They have 3 special considerations. You get extra points and can be bumped ahead of people partnered with hospitals. These are:

-Have a bachelor degree from UTA

-Have 12 hours of natural sciences from UTA

-have 30 of your undergraduate hours from UTA.

So I get all 3 special considerations. Has anyone else applied to the program that has the same circumstance as me? I have a 4.0 natural science GPA and a 3.8 pre req GPA. I cannot work at a hospital because of time restraints and location. I am really hoping these special considerations are true. I do know that UTA likes to help "their own".

I took online chem at TCC NE campus. I took ******, but I heard ***** is also great. You do have to go in one day a week for the lab. I made an A, and not because she was easy, I made it because she is an incredible teacher who is really good at explaining chemistry! I learned so so so much and it really helped me in Pharmacology, and is still helping me now, as a senior in the AP program. She's awesome, highly recommend!!! Yes, you have to go in one day per week but TRUST ME it is worth it.

Also can anyone tell me how is Pharmacology at UTA?

Just sent you an email there!

I'm taking Pharmacology and Patho online through UTA right now. They aren't too bad, except Pharmacology's readings/PDF's are not very efficient if you ask me (I condensed ~100 pages to 12 pages of good notes). The two classes are time consuming, but I'm enjoying them and learning TONS that is applicable to nursing.

Has anyone heard if letters have been mailed yet??!

My sister talk to dean Fri. she was told letters are going out at beginning of Nov.

Specializes in I have learned a little bit about a lot.

Did you end up ever using any off the other supplies in the box or just the v-scope.

Hey guys I talk to the secretary at Uta -she said letters were delayed and should be going out in about two weeks. :-( she also said there using a new ranking system to make their selections.

I do not understand this. I called today and they said next week and my advisor today said next week. Neither of them mentioned this new ranking system or two weeks? I feel so frustrated right now. @Judyduckett - do you know anything about this "new" ranking system? Just last week my advisor said we were all already "ranked."
