Yeah, unfortunately, no summers off. You'll either take OB/Pedi or Psych in the summer.

Thank you Kim! I am applying to as many schools as I can myself, but my priority/favorite/#1/top/dream/ is UT-HSC

    Thanks again!

as far as scrubs go, they mailed out the list of supplies needed. on the list was the navy blue scrubs. i went to the university bookstore to look for the software for the PDA. They seem to be light on the number of titles compared to what is on the list. they also have a typo on the list (several really), the "tame" tag is actually a name tag and according to the bookstore people, the school patches are not orange any longer, they are white and iron-on.

there is a discount scrubs place i found the scrubs and lab coat at a good cost. it is up the way from major's bookstore on fannin in a seedy looking strip center.
Hmmmm.....I haven't received this list yet. Are the PDAs mandatory? Maybe its my age, but I'm use to the old-fashioned method of looking things up in books. I don't like how small the PDA print is. This semester, I've used drug books and diagnostic manuals and they worked great. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I think the list they are referring to is for the accelerated students.

Does anyone know what the average gpa is for the fall 07 class?

For current or graduated students, how often do you need to take your laptop to class, if ever? Or perhaps PDAs are better to take? (Thats if they are even needed.)

I take my laptop to every class. It is easier for me to take notes in the powerpoint presentations and then transfer the lectures to word and print out three slides per page. I also found it easier to transfer recorded lectures onto my laptop that way.

I graduate in 10 DAYS!! Just took the exit exam today! Phew...that is over!

    Good luck to you all!

Do you ever use a PDA? I have a Compaq Presario and I'm trying to avoid purchasing a PDA also. Thanks for your help.

Nope. Never used a PDA at all. I don't really know of anyone in the class who used one. The only reason I can think to use a PDA would be to reference drugs during clinicals and the drug book is adequate for that.

My laptop was a lifesaver. I can type faster than I can write, so I was able to take better more complete notes using the laptop. Also, the whole school has wireless web.

    Hey TexasTac,

I know you mentioned powerpoint in your previous post. Do all classes teach with the powerpoint method? And if so, do the teachers post them on a website so that we can print them out or access them at a later time? WebCT perhaps?

Every teacher uses PowerPoint and the presentations are accessible through Blackboard. You can print them out prior to class and write on the hard copy or access them through Blackboard. Typically I would go to class a few minutes early, hook up my PC to the internet, download the powerpoint and take notes directly in it. I would then transfer the powerpoint to Word because then you have the slides right beside the notes you have taken.

Some professors record their lectures and you have access to them after class for review. I usually reviewed the lectures again in order to fill in any notes I might have missed.

This last semester for High Acuity our professor video tapes her lectures and also makes them available on Podcast, which is great. I listen to lectures while I am driving in the madness that is Houston traffic.
