TWU Dallas Fall 2011 Accepted!

U.S.A. Texas

Published

It was recommended on the other page that we start a thread for TWU's Fall 2011 Dallas accepted nursing students. Here you go! Lets be cordial and get to know everyone. We are going to be doing the same thing and seeing one another for the next two years. I know I will have a lot of questions throughout this process. I think that we can help one another more than we know.

Let me start it off. Im Zeek. I am a post bac student with a degree in biology. Im originally from Louisiana.

Check your email!

Everyone,

I have some info about the immunizations. If you check the attachments to the email we received today, you will find the prices for all our required shots. Don't panic yet, because there is a place to get them much cheaper. Go to any county health department and you can get all of those for $10 per shot.

I went to the Dallas County Health and Human Services office (2377 Stemmons Frwy, Dallas) today. You don't have to have an appointment, they are open 8-4 every day. You can pay cash or checks only but they do have an ATM there.

I got first dose of MMR, first dose of Varicella, first dose of Hep B and the tetorifice shot. That was only 40 bucks. If I went to our school office, it would have been much more (each vaccine is pretty much $50, the varicella is $80). I also had to get the TB skin test ($30) because I am an international student. That's also the reason why I had to get all the vaccines done. I have been vaccinated for all the stuff we have to have done, but don't have any proof of that.

I am going back on Thursday to get the skin test checked and then again in a month to get my second dose of MMR, varicella and Hep B.

Hope this will be helpful...

You have to bring your acceptance letter with you and I also brought the immunization form.

I have a quick question. I know that we are all choosing our clinical areas & so no one may want to share their opinion, but I am wondering if any current students feel like you getter better experience or prefer a location for reasons other than proximity to your house? I would appreciate any feedback you all may have regarding clinicals.

Thanks,

Kelly

i went with location so i cant answer that 1.

Thanks, I just was not sure if there were any strong opinions one way or another:-)

Hey guys orientation is right around the corner. check your email current students have organized a check list or some things you need to bring to orientation.

I'm helping out with orientation next week - I hope you're all excited and I look forward to seeing you Friday!

Another note about the immunization: Check your doctor's office if they do the varciella titer - I'm pretty sure most doctors do. If not, you can go to "Corporate health management". Phone number is 214-361-0995. They do the titer alone for $35. If you get negative results then you would need to get the shots which cost another X amount of money. SHS charges $60 for blood test alone. For Denton residents, TB testing and Tdap shots can be found at the Denton County HD. http://dentoncounty.com/dept/main.asp?Parent=1131&Link=1134
