Southeast Texas Nurse

U.S.A. Texas

Hey everyone.. Just thought it would be nice to have an area for us to chat in.....Get to know some of our fellow nurse neighbors, complain about work(or lack of it), stress of school, etc.........

Also, I am a new graduate LVN in the Southeast Texas area. Any advise on where to go to work?

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

I would love to work at the Federal Prison, but I dont want to be there when I am expecting...and Im always expecting... So Ill just wait. Dont the Federal Prisons have age limits.... This is what I heard dont know if it's true or not..

Hey I applied at the Federal Prison. Havent heard anything from them. Which prisons are hiring?

I'm attempting to tough it out here at the nursing home I'm at. Only because it pays really well.

I know this is an old thread but I am new to Southeast Texas. We moved to Nederland last month and I am an LVN with 6 yrs of experience. I am having a hard time finding a job. I have an interview for a home health agency next week in Beaumont. What is the rate of pay for LVN's in this area? Any recommendations of places who would hire an experienced LVN?

Hey there, welcome to the area! I live in Pt. Neches. I'm an RN now, but I was a LVN for 2 years before that. I worked Med/Surg at The Medical Center. The pay was pretty good, I worked the 36-hour perdiem schedule and I made $18/hr, but there's no benefits though, but I didn't need them. Now, I hear LVN's make pretty good money in Home Health, not sure of the exact rate, but I think it's close to $20/hr! As far as finding a job, if you're willing to work the floor, you won't have a problem at all. I would recommend Baptist in Beaumont which is where I work, most of the nurses who work the floors there are really happy. Now, I work in surgery and I know they hire LVN's as surgical techs, they will train you, not sure what the pay is though. There is also an inpatient Hospice hospital in Beaumont that hires LVN's pretty regularly, it's called Harbor Hospice. Anyway, good luck to you.

Thanks for the advice. I am experienced at nursing but I have been in the Army for the past 8 years and have no experience in searching for a job/interviewing/pay negotiation. This is all so new to me! I will see how the home health works out. It might be something I like if I get hired on. If not Baptist is another option I will consider. I am just ready to work!!

I am also from setx working at medical center(tele) and soon to be baptist (bmt) pay is good for home health but can get monotonous. I still work one day a week HH for extra money and could not give up my pts. It would be nice to have nurses from our area to chat with. Pay for LVN per diem is 18$ at med center and about the same at Baptist. HH is 19-20$ plus milage(full-time). Pay per visit where i am is 26$ plus milage. :)

I applied at Medical Center in the Tele unit but did not get a call back. I assumed that they hired for the position already. I had my first day riding with another LVN at preferred home health yesterday and I really liked it. It is so different from the hospital and I think it will great to be able to establish a rapport with the your longterm patients.

Good Luck!

If you are interested in med center, call the director personally. That seems to work the best. Paperwork always gets jammed up in HR. The director of tele is really nice but expect to work your tail off:bugeyes: HH is nice if you want to bulid a relationship/rapport with pts. Good luck.:D

LOL!! My brother-in-law (John) is your neighbor and I used to live "across (sorta)" the road from you. Does that help?
