i am going to apply to the nursing program at san jacinto community college this april, at san jac there are two options to use to apply:

option A: your ACT score

option B: your average grade of english comp 1, college algebra, and one of the sciences(a&p1 or 2, micro)

does anyone know what was the cutoff for the ACT scores? i just took my act test last week and i hope i did well. as for option B..my averages is a B. i got all B's in those classes and i didnt know if that was good enough to get into the program so i took the ACT to see how i score. im just hoping that i did well on the ACT..hoping atleast i scored a 25 or better? because i know and heard that nursing is competitive and i am a lil worried my B's in those classes wont make it. Does anyone know what the cutoff was for the option A at san jac? any other advice is welcomed! =)

i just checked my scores online..and i scored a composite score of 25. is that sufficient enough to get into the nursing program at san jac? i hope so...=\

should i choose option A or B?

Hello ^.^

I just graduated from high school and 2 days later I started summer school at San Jac Central.

I'm currently taking Philosophy and History 1301, I've taken History 1301 and Sociology 1301.

I need some advice. What do I need to do before I attempt to apply? Any recommendations PLEASE??

and what would be the fastest way to approach this? Message me back anyone please! THANKS =]:D:D:D:D

I will be applying for the nursing program in the spring of 2010. I've been in contact w/ the staff at the school and was recently read an e-mail that was sent to them about the program. What I was told is that out of the 400 people that applied, they only accepted 120. The lowest GPA that was accepted was a 3.4 and the average was a 3.7. It also said that before they look at anything else that they were looking at the grades on the for the reading, writing and comprehension on your compass (or ACT). It contimued to say that they weren't as worried about the math grades because they can teach you the math that you needed to know for the program but that is what they are looking at to determine elegibility. Also, make sure that you look over the application COMPLETELY before filling it out. They look at that as a kind of "enterance exam" for the program. MAKE SURE NOT TO INCLUDE ANY LETTERS OF RECCOMENDATION FROM ANYONE!!!! THEY WILL NOT EVEN LOOK AT THEM AND EVEN LOOK DOWN ON YOUR APPLICATION AND SEE YOU AS ONE THAT DOESN'T FOLLOW DIRECTIONS BECAUSE IT STATES NO LETTERS OF RECCOMENDATION!!! That is the jist of what was on the e-mail. GOOD LUCK!

they want english 1301, math 1314 or 1333, biology (anatomy & physiology)2401 & 2402, and microbiology (I cant remember the course # for that one. Go talk to someone in the dept (I spoke w/ Amanda, she is the retention specialist for the RN program @ central campus) and they can let you know for sure. I guess I will see you around campus this fall! Have fun and Good Luck!!!

Thank You. I appreciate your information!!

:yeah:

I just got my AP scores back and I've earned credit for English 1301, I'm happy to say - but wonder how that will affect me, as I was planning on applying with my GPA and have not taked me ACT's

Specializes in got a cna license but no job.

There are P.E courses required. is it one P.E class or is it 2. DO you have to take it at San Jac?

i know this is an old post, but there are unanswered questions so I feel like answering them. :) hope someone still reads them. haha.

pink 2004, it's just one kinesiology class, as that's what they call P.E. I'm applying for San Jac's ADN program and I took my Kinesiology class at LSC Kingwood. You don't HAVE to take it there. The only classes you need to worry about are the ones for applying under option B. You have to take those at San Jac, otherwise you're stuck picking option A, which will be what I have to do.

KaBooMx, I would take all the classes that are non-actual nursing classes that you can before you get into nursing school so that you have a lot of stuff under your belt, making your load in nursing school less stressful. Make sure you focus on getting an A in AP1, AP2, and Medical Microbiology, since those classes count majorly. Also shoot for an A in psychology. I got AP credit for English, too, which is good, because that's a prereq for pretty much everything. I hope your summer classes and fall semester went well! What all have you taken up to this point? I would recommend taking your Kinesiology, Speech, and Fine Arts classes before nursing school, since you will have to take them. also, take a CPR class for health providers no less than a year before applying, but don't wait til the last minute either. They expire every 2 years, so don't take it too early. Start your Hepatitis B shots now, because they take quite a while, and that's another thing you'll need. If you do all this, nursing should be a quick breeze.
