RN Job Bonanza in Dallas?

My brother in Dallas just called and said there was a story on the news tonight about how hospitals in Dallas are still desperate to hire/keep nurses. It said they are still paying big sign-on bonuses and even hiring concierges to do things like grocery shop and wait around your home for the cable guy. Is this for real?! I've been looking in a couple of markets and given the economy these days, some facilities aren't even hiring at all, let alone dishing out the perks that used to be standard. If anyone in Dallas could comment on this, I'm sure we'd all like to know if it's for real!

Didn't hear about that. Could you tell me what news station to listen to? Been trying to find a new job, with no luck. Also, haven't had much in agency work (prn), either. You would think that if there are a lot of open positions, there would be more agency work to fill the gaps. Less than a year ago, I could have worked every day as agency, if i wanted to.

Geesh....yeah I would like to know about this as well........I am in Rochester, NY and well not a big fan of the snow here!! I might think about Dallas if this is what is being offered......I am looking for some place that is warm, a large city, not TOO far from my family here but that has more opportunities for jobs--particularly in behavioral health as well as a city that is gay-friendly with an active and large LGBT community. I hear Dallas has all that ....but the nursing I have not gotten any info on........So yes.....lets hear about these jobs!!!! lol

I have to suggest that you first visit for about a week in August & if you survive, you will be OK. Ohhh, and it isn't a dry heat, either.

Funny, I miss snow and would move back in a NY minute if I could afford to. FYI, my summer a/c bill ran $500.00/month because I like to keep it at 72 degrees-the a/c did burn out and had to be replaced, so I think part of that bill was d/t a faulty unit.

well i am looking at working in the big city so i am all ears about this thread... as a new almost gn i really feel like a ( icu ,or) intern ship is the best thing but i can hang in med-surg for a while if the price is right....

commuter told me that i was paying too much. i just figured that it must have been the bad air conditioner. i have the a/c on right now and am wooried what the next bill will bring.

I have been unemployed for the past 2 weeks. I have had 1 face to face interview and 1 telephone interview with hospital in the DFW area despite applying for many positions at all the hospitals except 1. I would say that the hospitals may have "selective" desperation. BTW I am from Upstate NY originally and when you get the heat in the summer you may wish you had the cold.

I went to an interview today and indeed was told of a concierge service at this one hospital in Ft Worth so I guess at least at this one hospital it is true.

Dallas hospitals utilize Group1 and are known for running nurses into the ground.

Dallas hospitals attract plenty of nurses- they just can't keep them.

Concierge services and so on are just gimmicks- if you treat nurses fairly, pay them well and provide the kind of environment where nurses can concentrate on giving their best care- you will have enough nurses and won't need to resort to gimmicks.
