ranking of tx nursing schools?

Just wondering, not that it's that important, but does anyone know the rankings of the tx nursing schools (which tx nursing schools are the best)? From what i gather, here's what i think:

1.) UT-Austin (pretty sure)

2.) UT-Houston?

3.) UTMB??

4.) Texas women's university???

5.) UTHSCSA (no clue)

NCLEX pass rate is a good indicator of how well prepared the students are, but consider one more thing that you don't see on the BNE: the school's attrition rate. Where I went (ECC), we have an outstanding NCLEX pass rate, but that's becauese they make it so hard to get to graduation - we lost over half of our original class - and many of them would have made excellent nurses. Make sure the school you are looking at graduates a decent percentage of their students (which indicates they can teach) - otherwise, they are just weeding out potentially wonderful nurses because they aren't 90% (choose your own number) certain that they will pass the NCLEX and damage their pass rate. :twocents:

Yikes!! I dropped off my application to El Centro today. This worries me about losing half of class. Just so I can prepare, will you give me some examples of what things may cause one to be deleted from the ADN program. I do well in school and make all A's, but I didn't even think about attrition rate. For example, what caused half of original class to be lost? I would really appreciate any advice, as I am determined to succeed!! Thankyou!! Hopefully I will be in the 2009 Fall ADN program.:confused::chair:

mom35 -- It's not that they will "delete" you from the program. They just won't teach you. You are expected to learn everything on your own with very little, if any, direction. Imagine being told that a test is over a broad topic, say cardiac, and that's it. No chapters, no pages, no read this book, nothing. Test questions can come from text books we don't use, topics not covered in lecture, etc. If it has anything to do with the heart, it can be on the test. Plus, anything covered on a previous test or previous semester is also fair game ... to ensure you retain the information.

Basically, the people running the program are not there to help you in any way. Other schools offer things for struggling students; not ECC. Find some friends, form study groups, read your texts books, answer NCLEX questions ... because these things will help you get through -- not the staff at ECC.

All that being said, no matter where you go, nursing school is challenging. I talked to other students, and they had their gripes, too, no matter what color uniform they were wearing. So many people have made it through; it is possible! You can do it!! :)

Jaxia is right (we just survived it together). If you are self motivated and don't need to be spoon fed, patted on the back, and reassured that everything will be alright, you can make it through. They are just very unsupportive. However, they have lowered the passing grade from 78 to 75.5 this semester, and as of a couple semesters ago, you don't have to make a certain score on the exit HESI to escape the darn program - it's just averaged in as your final exam. If you graduate, odds are GREAT that you will pass the NCLEX. Just don't get behind and visit the boards here. We are on the El Centro boards alot and can give you some guidance along the way. What's it like at Northlake? Is it parallel to El Centro or are they more supportive?

I know that your degree will come from El Centro if you get into the Northlake

program which is where I plan on applying.

It's the same teachers, same administration. In fact, a friend of mine had to repeat a semester there because of an extrememly minor thing. Just make sure you stay ahead of the game, and find a study group, along with the support of those who survived it!
