U.S.A. Texas

I have just been accepted into the Seton RN residency and can answer any questions you may have. I will also be creating a post throughout my experience in the residency. Ask away!

Hi all,

Congrats to everyone who got in! :) I was wondering for those who were accepted, was anyone an out-of-state applicant? I applied and I'm from CA. I just graduated this past December, NCLEX in 2 weeks and very interested in Peds, specifically critical care. I was just wondering what the experiences were of out-of-state applicants. Thank you in advance! :)

Kind Regards,

Steph

Hi! I applied from Ohio. If you truly interested in the program, you need to come to the open house, whenever the next one is. They really don't take anyone into consideration if you don't go to the open house. When I went, I felt that being from Ohio helped me stand out from everyone else. Everyone kept saying, "Ohio?! Why are you moving here?" I had a great experience when I was offered interviews. I also just graduated in December and they were very accommodating to work around my schedule since I was still in school. Overall, I just fell in love with Austin. Everyone is so nice here and I couldn't be more blessed with the outcome!

Purduegrad,

Thanks for getting back so quickly! Guess I will be planning to make my way out there in March (I've applied for their June cohort) :) I have some close friends out there and I'm looking for a change of scenery. As I'm sure you've heard (and probably is the case everywhere), Cali can be a difficult place to get a first job. I live in Southern CA region, warm and sunny and full of applicants! Thanks again and good luck on NCLEX/start of your program! Very exciting! :)

Kind Regards,

Steph

Hey,

So, the open house is very important to meet managers and network, but I was outta town surprising my mom for her birthday and couldn't make it. If you know what unit(s) you want I suggest dropping in the manager's office with a resume. That's what I did, and when I asked what I could do to separate myself from the competition he said, "you're doing it right now." He said at the open house you're lucky if you get two minutes of their time; we were able to talk for about 20 minutes and I definitely credit that to getting my interview and subsequent offer.

Best of luck!

Jarreux,

Wow! Thanks so much for the advice! I'm currently prepping for NCLEX (less than 2 weeks away) and I landed a full-time 8-week spot as a superuser to help in transition of paper to EMR charting for a major hospital in the area, but I'm hoping to make it out to Austin as soon as I get some free time-likely in March around the open house time. I'm glad to know they welcome people to talk outside of the open house event should people not be able to make it. Thanks again! I really appreciate it :)

Yes, but I guess I should add some might be welcoming and have the time, others might not. So dress professionally, never pester them and call/email ahead of you can. I got pretty lucky with my timing.

If you don't have any connections at Seton, your best bet is to go to the open house. I applied for the October cohort, but didn't attend d/t school conflicts. I didn't get one call. I then applied for the February cohort, went to the open house, and ended up with a job! Leaving the open house, I felt like it was a very worthwhile experience. I got a good amount of time with the managers and it obviously made all the difference!

Good to know! Thank you both, I really appreciate your advice! :)

Yep, I'm sure we will! Congrats!!

Has anyone receive their ATT yet? It is near impossible to get through to the BON when I call them...I am almost close to driving up to the office. This coming week will be marked as the third week since our official grades has been posted. My nerves are killing me!
