Parkland Residency's for January 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi guys!

I just wanted to start a thread for everyone applying for the January residency's at Parkland so we can keep each other updated on progress. I've been told that they take their time in getting back to people and the process is slow! I applied to the ER and MICU last weekend and haven't heard anything yet. What specialty areas have you guys applied to and have you been contacted yet?

Prettyladie, DM me. Are you experienced in ER? If so, I'd think you could be hired directly onto the unit vs going through a residency. Starting for an rn 1 is close to $28 and goes up from there....

Specializes in Emergency.

I am an experienced RN. I've already gone through an internship, 16 weeks from another Level I facility. They told me that because I had less than 2 years experience I had to go through it again. I will DM you TeeJaazi.

After CAREFUL CAREFUL consideration. I will be giving up my spot in the ED residency. I have decided to pursue other opportunities. Good luck to the rest of you and your career goals.

I interviewed on monday for the ED residency on monday 12/3. I hope i get a call back soon...

Hopefully you will hear something soon. I wish the opportunity would work out with my schedule, but it just doesnt. Good luck to everyone. I was so excited to know at least this time they wanted me! But on the other hand, I start my new job Dec 17! :))

I interviewed for the SICU residency on Tuesday and got the job offer on Friday! I accepted!! Ahh!! So excited to be a SICU nurse!

Is anyone else here interested in the L&D internship? I interviewed on Monday and received my offer through email this morning. I'm seriously considering it, but its a big move from California! Would love to talk to others that are relocating!

I don't know anything about Cali or about relocating, but I can tell you a bit about Dallas. Parkland is located in the meat of the city I would say. Children's Medical center and UT southwestern (both well known hospitals) are right next door to parkland. The apartments in that area around Parkland are on the pricey side unless you are rooming with someone and splitting the rent. If you live about 20 minutes from Parkland you may find better deals on apartments... I was always told that once you go to Parkland and get experience there, you can get a job anywhere (literally anywhere) afterwards because Parkland is known for their variety population and "super sick" patients...you will learn A LOT from Parkland. Dallas is a great city with so many different things to do whether you are a nightlife kind of person or not. The cost of living is lower than other major cities in the country...gas prices are around $2.95-ish/gallon as of today....we have mild winters, barely any snow, but we have hot as h3ll summers.....

right now parkland is on the process of getting a brand new huge facility right next to the current one...by the looks of it....it's going to look AMAZING....i think they should be done with it by 2014...

my advice to u is that...if L&D is truly your PASSION, then the relocation is worth it...

Parkland just sent me the sample contract and info about ED residency. There was 20+ people cc in the email. I just declined my spot in the reply of the email so keep up the hopes that might be called! Good luck!

Kinda cool to see some other folks who will be in the residencies posting here. I just graduated a couple weeks ago and will be in the NICU residency. Hopefully now that we're almost past the holidays we'll starting get some details on schedule and stuff. Anyway, looking forward to meeting some of yall. I should be easy to spot, I think I'm the only guy in the NICU residency ;).

Hi all! I just noticed that the ED residency is posted again. Does anyone know the start date and the length of the contract?

TeeJazzi84,

I am in the current residency program. There is an increase in pay after completion.
