It makes me nervous that there are so many people relocating to Texas in order to find a job. The market is already not great here.

I am in the Houston area, does anyone think that being a Houston native will help me in finding a job over someone from another area?

I know for a fact that most hospitals in the vicinity of the Texas Medical Center prefer to hire new grads who completed clinical rotations locally. This would make things harder for new grads who come from out of the state, although some new grads from different states are getting hired at facilities on the outskirts of Houston.

People have been moving to Texas from other states for at least the past five years.

Houston continues to grow. As the population expands, so does the demand for health care. There are jobs for experienced nurses in pretty much all locations. New grads looking for jobs in a hospital need to be BSNs and should not limit their searches to those hospitals that have formal new grad programs. A smaller, customized orientation can be just as good, if not better.

It's always ironic to me (native Texan) that despite the fact that there are so many Tx HATERS - we continue to welcome transplants seeking job opportunities that are the result of our strong economy.

I have never been one to be afraid of not getting a job. I am good at being interviewed and I am very professional, but sheesh, I am nervous now!!!

Sometimes I just want to tell everybody to stay where they came from!!!!!! I mean no disrespect in that at all, but man it's nerve-racking!

Thank you guys for your responses! I will be graduating with my BSN two years from now, so maybe the job economy will be better by then. I also do have connections at a few hospitals. AND yesss I agree; why so many Texas haters!??

I don't think you should have many problems. You have home-field advantage.

And we have a governor who's trying to get the constitution amended so that they can return some of the 8.8 billion dollars in surplus. :)
