I have a question for those of you enrolled at HCC. I just finished pharmacology and I noted that by the end of the semester, only 1/2 of the class was left. Does this happen in the clinical program also? Just curious.

In my class (also at HCC Coleman), only 1/3 was left after the math test and the 2nd exam. I made it though, and I'm starting clases on the 28th.

I havent started just yet but I realize Im coming into a huge pardicament. How many of you all are working and and doing this ADN program at HCC. I am working a job now thats 830a to 530p and I just have a few more pre-req's to go before I do start the ADN program but Im realizing that with all these classes whether you choose the day cycle or the night cycle that these classes are all over the place and how do you keep a FT or PT job with somewhat steady hours and do the ADN program???

Which comes with the delima of keeping a job and doing the ADN program?:o

I live on my own and currently my mother is living with me because my grandmothers house has been torn down to be rebuilt but because of some issues and because she is my mother I havent asked her to help out with much because my mom and her sisters are in this colaboration to get this house rebuilt so they can move back into it and once again have a place of there own. I guess you could say my mom and her sisters are out of a house and a home until my grandmothers house gets rebuilt. So I thought to maybe get a night job so I could do the nursing program at night but some of these clinicals are going until 11PM! Yikes! It looks I may have to quit or pray that I find a really flexy job thats decent because I cant afford not to work.

So as you see im in a perdicament...im just trying to see if from other people perceptions and what they are doing if I can find working and doing ADN to work out or able to it at the same time?:uhoh3:

I am currently enrolled in the HCC ADN program and have two semesters left....You can work and go to school at the same time. Many people do it. I don't, but many of my friends do. You have to be very organized and it helps to have a job that you can study at. It is also helpful to have a back-up plan in case working does not work for you. Remember everyone is different and what might come easily for one person may not for the next. If you have any more questions just ask away....

I also wanted to comment to the OP, Pharm is a class that on average loses 1/3 to 2/3 of the students. As far as clinical, you will not lose students like that at all (I have seen one student fail clinical), as for theory, you will have to worry about PEDI, because you will lose about the same percentage as Pharm. I could list the reasons why but that is probably best in a private e-mail, but I will say that it can be done!!!

So by no means let this stop you or scare you, because trust me if I can do it anyone can and if it is your dream you will make it happen, part of passing is knowing how you learn and doing what you have to

do, for me that meant 8 weeks with my head in a book, for others it was something different. Don't let the numbers freak you out. The first question I asked in Pedi was the percentage of pass/fail and ofcourse the instructor declined to answer, but I think it helps to know beforehand when you are up against something challenging so you can prepare yourself in advance, by that I mean getting all your ducks in a row (babysitters, house cleaning, jobs...etc) if it wasn't for the strong support system I have I am not sure I would be where I am today, so if you can start talking to the family about what your life is going to be like and start asking for help now the better off you will be(warn them). And remember it is different from one person to the next, so what was difficult for me might not be for you....So it really is a toss-up, I just know that those two semesters Pedi and Pharm were the semesters where we lost a lot of students. Wow, did i ramble, sorry, I just remember being where you guys are and wishing someone would tell me something....Hope I helped a little....

Yes, wait till you get to PEDI the drop rate is worst. Just do your best and hang it there. The keys to passing, is to understand what is normal, then you can identify what is abnormal in the disease process.
