HCC ADN Fall 2008 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL

Thanks!

won't it be cool if we have like a get together, i mean all of us practically go to the same lecture class. (just thinking out loud:coollook:)

Good idea smilesalot!:D

how is the beginning of nursing school going for everyone? i'm planning on applying for the program starting in the summer.

nursing school is less-than-impressive at this point. maybe that's unfair of me to say considering we're only in our second week, but the lack of organization is really beginning to get to me (and several other students, i'm sure). :bluecry1: there are 180 students...i know, but i really don't think that should be used as an excuse. why would a department accept this many students if they are unable to accommodate them? it, also, doesn't seem like they have a firm grasp on how to use blackboard either. i've heard of several mishaps over the past few days concerning quiz grades. i'm sure the system will even itself out over the next few weeks. until it does, i just can't feel sorry for the people running the show over at the hcc adn program. college is a business...not in the traditional sense, but a business none-the-less. we, as students, pay these people to teach us a trade. it's that simple. there is no reason (at all) they shouldn't be prepared for a large class that they knew was coming. and they did know...since may i have been hearing, from faculty!!!!, about how they were trying to get the student count up to 200. :banghead:

all-in-all, i really do enjoy the instructors. they all seem very personable and i haven't heard any serious complaints about any of them. students may get upset about the kinks in the program at hcc, but it's not the fault of the instructors. treat them with respect and i'm sure they'll do whatever they can to help you out. i suppose the most important thing (or only thing) for us to do is learn the material the best we can and prepare for clinicals.

From my observations as a 3rd semester ADN student (different program, though), it ain't gonna get any better.

yea i can completely understand how the lack of organization must irritate you and several others. so far i've had more teachers for my pre-reqs that had no idea what they were doing when it came to actual teaching using lesson plans & etc. its definitely annoying when you want to be able to have a final answer regarding important things in the class.

good luck to you and maybe i'll see you around coleman next year! :specs:

How did everybody do on the math test?

I didn't stay after class to get my grade. They were taking too long and I was exhausted! So I left... I think I did ok. Hopefully I will not have to retake. BUT we will see!

I didn't find any surprises in the exam, and didn't stay to get my grade either.

RnBound, how are you finding everything?

How are you all structuring your studies? I'm interested to know what others are doing...

Oh, and I wonder if we should start a new thread?

:cool:starting a new thread is a good idea! lol

I havent found my way thru this mess yet!!! I try to stay up to date with the readings... but it seems impossible. Especially after they changed thursdays lab.

I am just studying, making flashcards, re-reading the text (the NOTES ARE A JOKE), and just learning EVERYTHING bc it seems like they dont even have a structure. I am doing this now to prepare for the first lecture test. I will see how it works out. At this point there is no way I am even going to rely on the notes. YEA RIGHT!!!! I am staying positive and taking it one day at a time.

I guess I'm doing the same as you... making my own notes for each of the 8 chapters and keeping on top of the readings. I hope things settle down a bit next week... tho I'm not holding my breath. Rememeber: be flexible!

I started a new thread: https://allnurses.com/forums/f175/hcc-adn-program-fall-08-a-331478.html

I'm more likely to use blackboard, but part of me prefers this forum's calmness! :p
