Hi. Is anyone here attending nursing school at El Paso Community College? I will be starting my first semester in January and am very excited! I've already purchased many of the text books and wanted to know if anyone else has? Any concerns or comments about attending the program? I'd love to hear from you!

Happy New Year!:yeah:

I :nurse:am a recent EPCC LVN grad.:yeah:VERY PROD OF IT!!! I WORKED VERY HARD TO GET TO WHERE I AM. AND I PLAN T CONTINUE TO THE RN PROGRAM. IT TAKES EFFORT AND DETERMINATION. MY ADVICE TO ANYONE ENTERING THE NURSING PROGRAMS, READ, READ, READ.

FYI,

a friend of mine didnt receive the usual acceptance letters to any of the nursing programs. Today, she received a phone call, she got a spot on the LVN program....I'm guessing people who didnt get anything might be getting phone calls. :) There still hope. Crossing fingers for those that didnt quite get a spot this semester. :w00t:

Aviatorwife....We are also here at Ft. Rucker and will be moving to Ft. Bliss in August. I also need to take Pharmacology after we get there. I won't be in the nursing program, but the respiratory therapy program. Maybe we will run into each other.

:o Mother of 2 don't worry you are getting in i'm pretty sure.......Just be patient.....sometimes people don't qualify for many reasons such as police records

Thank you coso : ) I am still hoping I get in !!!

Hello everyone! It has been awhile since I've logged in, but have been super busy with school. To everyone who got accepted to start in Fall '11, Congrats! My advice - study, study, study! You will have to dedicate yourself to school 110%. Your family and friends will see less of you but it will all pay off in the end.

It is hard to believe that it was a year ago that I entered the nursing program. This Fall I will start 3rd semester (half way there!). I know you hear this a lot, but the time goes by so fast. You will be busy with clinicals, check-offs, nursing care plans, etc. Also, there are some instructors that offer tutoring so take advantage, the more help the better your chances are of passing. For 1st semester students: be prepared to be at school Mon.-Sat (Sat, you will be in the lab practicing your skills for check offs). Sometimes your classes will end early about 12pm, but it does not end there, you will be at the library studying. Just stay focused and discipline yourself. Lastly, there will come a time when you feel discouraged or just want to give up (I know I did) but please don't give up, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Good luck to everyone!

E.

Hello everyone! As I am the one who started this thread, I thought it would be fitting to post a great follow-up.

I passed my NCLEX! :yeah: I am now a Registered Nurse! Congrats to all who have entered the program and best wishes for those who are trying to get in.

Never give up, don't let road blocks get the best of you, and always believe in yourself. :)

Hi,

I'm currently working on my science classes for the RN program @ EPCC. I will be taking ap2 in the fall, in the spring I will be taking micro and pharm. Who do you suggest for micro and pharm? If you could please send me a message with that info. Hopefully I will be ranking in June 2012...

Great job medgirlRN!:yeah: Did you get a job? I will be moving to El Paso next month. I plan on taking the Respiratory program though.

hey everyone its my first post here, im a current epcc student transfering over from engineering, im just waiting for some money to clear to be able to sign up this semester for the ranking courses, i just wanted to know, can i take a&p1 with pharma or do i have to wait? also, if you dont get to rank in, what happens? nursing was my original choice but the ranking process was what turned me away from getting into it, now that ive grown a distaste for all the engineering stuff, im hoping to get back into it all again, this thread is great, even computer related majors dont have the sense of community that nursing seems to have

From what I understand, you have to take AP1 and AP2 before taking pharm. I was also discouraged because of the ranking system, you have to get A's in all science classes. But I decided to give it a try anyways. I just wish there were more nursing schools available (and economical), that way it wouldn't be so hard to get in. Well best of luck.

Hello there! I also came from engineering...what a coincidence! I also was discouraged from the ranking process because I wasn't passing the math. When I ranked, the math still had trig but after I ranked in they took it off. Anyhow, don't let anything discourage you to getting your dream and obtaining your goals! There will always be road blocks and challenges, but it takes a strong person with great character to climb over these bumps and become a better person for it. Isn't that what makes a great nurse? :)
