El Centro RN fall 2009

U.S.A. Texas

Hello, I will begin the ADN/RN program at El Centro this fall. My AP II professor, that I absolutely adore, told me that in the program the professor's are going to purposely be difficult and demanding. Professor said that they will put lots of emotional and mental stress on student in an effort to "weed" out those that cannot handle the stress. Wow, I always hear about how tough the professors are, but having my professor tell me this really confirms it for me. I am going to make sure that I practice being emotionally neutral and practice keeping my focus on the goal. Any advice on how to handle the stress from the professors is needed. I can pretty much deal with the educational stress such as chapters, work, learning-I work hard and study hard! I want to make sure I prepare myself emotionally for the upcoming challenges that these professors will present!

I think you said it just right - keep your mind, and especially your HEART on your ultimate goal, and you will be just fine! Many people have done it already and just know that you can too. I think the main thing to is believe in yourself and know that you can acheive all things. Even though nursing school is a lot of work and demanding, please remember to make time for R&R. Rest and recovery is so important!

You've made it this far mom35, you'll do great to the end!

All the best and God bless!

absolutely true with el centro and maybe other programs, be prepared to 'kiss your instructor’s bud' if you really want to make it through, seriously. for the next two years, be willing to accept/do what you would normally not do, try not to be argumentative, defensive, readily accept your mistakes and show lots of interest in nursing even if you don't like particularly during clinical since evaluations are subjective

Specializes in ER.

Having completed El Centro, I can tell you it is a fact that they are hard on you, and they seem very uncaring about whether the changes they make put you out or not. But, you can do it if you have the right mindset. Where did you take your A & P II class?
