El Centro/ Northlake Nursing Spring 2014

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello all! I'm new here and have not seen a post for El Centro spring 2014. I was originally planning to apply for fall 2014, however I just heard that the point system and prerequisites have been revised! Now I will be able to apply for this spring! I don't know if I will get in, but its worth a shot! Anyone else applying for spring 2014?

Ohhhh nursing school days :cheeky: thank God I'm done with that!! I'm a graduate from the NLC campus, anyway just stopping by to wish all good luck  Most of nursing school experiences are what you make them. Be positive, stay focused, and study smart not hard.

Yeah $50 for CPR is about right. Some hospitals offer the classes also, like Baylor and Texas Health Resources.

Anyone know another place to take the HESI besides el centro? They are all full; and the prometric centers cost like 85 bucks!! I wanted to retake it for a higher AP score.

I got my CPR done through my job. I work as a phlebotomist at Parkland Hospital.

i know the new point system is out of 40 for 2014, and that your hesi can get you up to 12 points now. I took my HPRS class there in may and the lady let us look at the form for the new point system, but they still havent posted it!

I just took my HPRS class there in may and the lady let us look at the new point system. Your right about the pre reqs. Now the point system is out of 40, and your HESI can get you up to 12 points now. Not sure why they havent posted the new system online yet.

Grrr...been checking for the updated packets everyday!! Im kinda at a halt and waiting to apply after they post everything.

Hi! I would also love if someone could please email me the packet info! I've been checking and it has yet to be posted! :-(

My email is c-schepp [at] prodigy. net

Thanks!!

I spoke with an advisor today and she thought the new information should be posted by the first week of August. She sounded frustrated as well.

I was pretty nervous about the new points system, and am happy to find that it is not a bad change at all. Currently as I stand, I have 30 points. 21 before the HESI. And 9 from the HESII took two days ago.

I got a 100 on the math, 98 on the grammar, 96 on the vocab, 90 on the reading comp, and a blasted 88 on the A&P. Blah! :-( So I'm taking it again tomorrow to try and improve my points..

I really wonder how they will change the actual curriculum in the program... I am getting so nervous!

shawnswife,

I am taking my HESI Saturday. Kinda worried about the AP portion more than anything, can you give any advice as far as what areas to study up on??

Hi PD82, I am also leaving this reply in response to a private message I received from AKing21. I haven't started "15 quality posts", so this forum won't let me send responses to any private messages I receive... that sucks, makes me look like a douche by not responding... But anyway, here is what I tried to send...

"The A&P was the area I had the most trouble with on the HESI also. It's weird because the questions are so random and some are fairly deep compared to what I expected. I reviewed the Elsevier study guide, but was surprised on how little it helped. The main materials I used were my old notes from A&P I & II, an A&P app on my phone, and also the pocketprep HESI practice app. I practiced with the apps whenever I had free time. 5 minutes here, ten minutes there. It helped me remember and brush up on the material from the classes.

Also, if you felt fairly comfortable going in, then were surprised at your results, try taking the exam again. You might get a better batch of questions the second time around. That's what I did. my first try I got an 88, two days later without any extra studying, I got a 98.

I wish you both a ton of luck!!

shawnswife,

Wow you tested twice in a few days?? It wouldn't be too bad if we didn't have to retake ALL of the sections each time. Sounds like you did great! Thanks for the info, by the way!! I took my HESI again this morning and did much, much better than last time. I felt very good about testing for AP because of recent studying, and also improved my math grade. The last thing I need to do is the physical and my app will be ready to turn in!

Has anyone already submitted their application? If so, any info on the average high/lo points for Spring 2014?
