El Centro 3rd semester

U.S.A. Texas

Anyone have any tips or comments about 3rd semester? I'm a little worried it's going to be really difficult since 2nd semester was way too easy.

HI PROUDRN2B,

I am still in my pre reqs with dcccd, I wanted to ask you what you think about El Centro vs. Brookhaven? Thanks!

Hi ProudRN2B,

Just finished 3rd and it WAS tough. Read all you can because the lectures don't cover half of it like they did the first two semesters. The first test was the toughest because it blindsided everyone. Good luck!

and lgtx3 --

I don't have enough knowledge about the BHC program to compare it with ECC. I just know the accelerated aspect was appealing. I didn't think I could swing the courseload, clinicals, AND a three-year-old. :)

Thanks. that's what I was worried about. I felt second semester was way too easy so I figured this one would be hard. Are there any tegrities on the first test? So far they haven't posted anything. All we have is what chapters to read. I've been making very detailed patho's for every disease in the chapters...do you think that will help or am I wasting my time? Good luck in 4th!

I can only tell you what I've heard about Brookhaven is they hold your hand more. I would love to have teachers who I feel are encouraging and want you to succeed. However, with that being said, El Centro is tough. the instructors are cruel and you feel like they want you to fail but it makes me try harder and want to prove them wrong. You will stay stressed out at ECC because it's very unorganized but I honestly think in the end I will be a better, stronger nurse because of all the difficulties they throw at us.

There should be some Tegritys out there soon, the quality in sound is terrible and they are a bit tough to sit through for a couple of reasons, unless they redid them. What are the chances of that? :)

The patho is a great idea, but if you read and retain the reading, you should do great!

And good call on the program -- I've had to grow a thicker skin because of it, which can only help in this career! The disorganization has been a little disappointing, but from what I understand, is common in nursing schools.

Thanks for the feedback. Best of luck to you all. I am going to see if ECC has an info session so I can learn more and apply to both.

Mimi_P, you won't believe it but I think the tegritys had to be redone. The LVN/Bridge people were told they got lost when they switch to the new ecampus so they had to be redone. I doubt the quality is any better. I didn't watch any the first two semesters, I felt they were a waste of time, but thought it might help for this semester.

I agree with Mimi. The new tegrity recordings SUCK as far as content. However, the quality is much better. I remember way back when I could depend on them but I quickly found out this past semester that that is no longer the case. Last time I checked, I am a literate human being. I don't need to listen to someone reading the PP slides.

I thought I could remember what we covered in 3rd semester, but I'm suddenly drawing a blank and my 3rd sem content has been taken off of e-campus. The things that stick out are asthma, DM, and AAA. Don't ask me why these 3 stick out, they just do. Whatever you do, try to learn as much as you can. 4th sem builds on 3rd sem content. For example, 3rd sem covers angina (chest pain) while 4th sem builds on that by covering myocardial infarction. Lucky for you, you have summer break in between sem 3 and 4. Use it to review what didn't make sense. You'll be happy that you did.

I think the pathos will help you. When in doubt, refer to the syllabus.

Anyhoo, sorry for the rant. I'm just glad that I made it out in one piece.

Good luck to you all. You CAN do this.
