U.S.A. Texas

Ok so i finally graduate and become a Registered Nurse....well i got a job close to home b/c i felt that would benefit me...i was wrong...

the unit i work at is something else, nobody seems to do their job...it sucks...i know nursing isn't suppose to be like this...i should love coming to my job!

what do i do...should i just stay for 6 mos or a year or what to find a new job....its horrible...

any advice would help! thanks!!!

How long have you been working there?

What do you mean specifically by "nobody seems to do their job"?

Regardless of what your response is, make sure to still do your job.

That's the thing...i've only been there for 2 months...

"nobody does their job" ...pharmacy never puts in all the orders, i have to call them all day every day...the nurses don't do all the Dr's orders so we have to go through the charts days back just to make sure everything's correct...and done...we only have like 1-2 nursing assistants Ever! so it's like total patient care for all 6 patients...it's crazy.

If you are very unhappy with where you are and feel you can't stand being there much longer, or feel that the quality isn't where it should be (meaning in the interest of your patients as well as your own interests), you should do your best to get out of there as fast as you can. Depending on where you live, it might be difficult to find a new job, since you are a relatively new graduate/RN. If you do decide to leave, make sure that you find a place to work before quitting.

Even if you aren't completely fed up, but feel you could do better, there's nothing wrong with looking around for another job while still working there.

Texaschic-I really feel for you...

It's a real shock to get out of school and see how very different things really are. I was overwhelmed and disillusioned for months on my first job. The scary part was that I thought all my nursing jobs would be like that. They weren't. Yes, it's often not really the way it looked like it would be in school but some jobs are much better than others. I encourage you to look for something you like better.
