DFW GN/RN June 2011 Internships

U.S.A. Texas

I've seen threads discussing this topic so I'm hoping to combine all of the discussions and include everyone.

Who else is applying to June GN/RN internships is the Dallas and Fort Worth area? Where have you applied and what feedback have you received? Does anyone who applied to previously posted internships and got accepted or rejected have any advice for us?

Personally I'm a BSN Dec 2010 grad with a new TX RN license and I've applied to any openings I could find in the ED and women & infant services as well as a few random telemetry and critical care spots. I have had 1 phone interview and I have a phone interview and in-person interview scheduled for next week. Im keeping my fingers crossed that something will go well!!!

Good luck to all of us new grads in this tough job market!! :redpinkhe

I believe that you would be "overqualified" as an RN to be a tech and that goes against some kind of scope of work deal. I'm not too sure so don't quote me on that but I remember being told that at one point in time.

Hi. I'll be graduating in May with my BSN from a Louisiana school and am relocating to Dallas. I've also applied for all of the internships. I'm pretty much banking on not getting accepted into any of them. Do you guys know if they will hire a new nursing grad as a tech or something? At this point, I just want to secure a source of income.

Yeah when I moved here in Jan and found out that the internships don't start until summer I called around and asked about other work I could do. The idea of me being a tech with a RN license didn't go over well with any of the nurse recruiters I spoke to. If you don't get an internship you can try urgent care centers as they seem to be new grad friendly. (starting RN wage is $18) Also try applying for the next round of internships because by that time you will be a TX resident with a BSN and a RN license. I had much more success after moving here then when I applied while I was still in school and living in IL. Its not time to give up on the internships for this summer yet though (HCA Dallas hasn't even posted theirs!) - make sure you are applying everywhere and calling recruiters about your submissions. I practically stalked people to get all of my interviews but it worked!

Meggo,

I completely about stalking people. I have been doing that and it is finally starting to pay off. I have a face to face interview with JPS tomorrow as well as a phone interview for Baylor ER GN position then my face to face with ER is on Monday. I also contact the recruiter over Womens services at Baylor every week to check status of my application process. Out of 4 positions I applied for I am out of 3 but waiting to see if I make it to the next step for Newborn Nursery.

Good luck to everyone still looking and waiting.

Can someone define "stalk"? What kind of things are you guys saying to recruiters to get interviews? Everytime I call, they seem so uninterested.

For me stalking is calling them every week. When I get ahold of them I am just asking them the status of my application. I am not really pushy but show them that I am very interested.

Right after I applied I would call every 2 weeks and if I didn't hear back from them or if I really wanted a specific position I would write the recruiter a nice short email saying who I am and why I would love to work in their dept.

Once I knew things were starting to happen I called every week and left a message saying I wanted to know the status of my application. I wrote notes every single time I talked to a recruiter so that when they called me back I could say "Oh we spoke 2 weeks ago and you asked me to email you my resume" or whatever your convo was about... this is when I got most of my interviews. Keep in mind that its not personal if you don't get a call back, I can't imagine how extremely busy these recruiters are.

Stalker time - Once it got down to the wire I would call without leaving a message a few times hoping they would answer and then leave a message. If I really, really wanted a position and I knew I was missing my chance then I didn't really care if I seemed a little stalkerish. I also sent an email if my messages were never returned and then I kept right on calling. Don't ever be rude but let them know that you are here and you really want this.

After every interview I would send a hand written thank you note and if I had spoken to the recruiter in a personal way at all then I would email them saying thank you for setting up the interview and I really enjoying meeting so and so. I would call a few days after I was told to expect a decision if I hadn't heard anything. Always keep in mind that until you receive a rejection you are still in the running (and it may not even be the position that you think its for)

If you get rejected after an interview still call the recruiter that set it up and thank them for the opportunity. Ask them if there is anything you can improve on (even tho they probably won't know) and if there are any other opportunities because you really love their company. Be HUMBLE, never blame anyone, or be negative to the recruiter!

Let me know if you have any more questions and feel free to PM me. I developed a really specific game plan that helped me to land interviews with every company I applied for (except Methodist lol). Good luck on "stalking"!!!

Thank you everyone for all the information on the GN positions in the area. I have just accepted a position at Medical Center of Plano on thier Neuro PCU floor. I am so excited:w00t:

Has anyone applied to Parkland's L&D Residency beginning in June? Has anyone heard anything yet? I'm stressing out waiting!

I called yesterday and found out I wasn't chosen and I interviewed last week. I know during the interview they said they would make all decisions by May 6th

Really? I interviewed last week as well and I called and left a message. How do you send a private message through this thing? I'm new here. I didn't get a call back from my message. I guess I have to wait it out until next week. That's odd they went ahead and told you even though final decisions are next week...

Thanks for all the great advice meggo.

Does anyone know the email address for the Nurse Recruiters at Children's Hospital? I applied for the Acute Care Services Internship and want to try and follow-up with them through as much channels as possible.
