Has anyone had any experience attending Nursing school at College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas? I have looked at thier pass rates with the state. How is the program there? Any advice on application/ acceptence?

kliz18 - are you currently attending com's adn program? if you don't mind me asking how many points did you have? i wanted to see if i had a chance of getting in.

thanks!

Yes I am in the program but I'm not sure how many pts I got, I did have all the prereqs and most of the classes done that you could get extra pts for, med terminology psy chem pe eng 2 and a few others. If you get in those are some of the classes that u take during the program. So take them if you can! Also I got A and B in all the classes. Hope that helps

Does anyone know if COM is offering or is planning on offering evening classes?

Does anyone know if COM is offering or is planning on offering evening classes?

Not that I know of. Faculty has not mentioned any evening classes. I suggest calling the campus for up to date information regarding upcoming classes.

Ok, so sad to say I didn't get into UT- houston. I believe I didn't get in because I have waaayy to many W's (they're all from over 3 years ago though)Anyway, now I'm totally banking on COM!

To any of you guys who are in the program:

How is it going so far? Is it really stressful? How many people are in the program and are all the people in one big class or do they split it into 2 groups?

Thanks for any information you can give me about the program! I really hope I get in the program!

Oh well they are not the only game in town! If you have the prereqs. for UT there are several other 4 year programs around town. I am taking a "shotgun" approach and trying to cover requirements for several. Hey good luck and keep plugging away!

I applied to UTMB as well but later found out that you're disqualified if more than 2 classes have been retaken. I've retaken 4 : (

Now, sadlu, all of the deadlines for the Universities have passed so I'm left with community colleges. Which I definitely don't mind. I'll be happy to get it anywhere but I'm just a little upset because I already have an associates and have taken all 60 hours that transfer to a BSN program. I don't want to wait and apply again for the spring semester so I will apply to several community colleges and hope for the best! Maybe I'll go back and do the RN-BSN transition.

Are you currently in the program?

No I am not in a program yet. I have a Masters degree and this is a second career for me. I will be applying for the Spring programs. I keep flip floping between San Jac and COM. I took the Paramedic program there 20 some odd years and thier program is good. COM is cheaper for me as I now live in District. UT has a second Bach program but I just can not swallow the cost. Once you have a Bach degree good by Financial aid. I also read on the San Jac website on a form that they have a hybred program with evening classes. ( internet + face to face). for about 30 students a term. It willl come down to who says yes first I suppose.

I'm right there with you! I love the hybrid program that San jac offers. I'm planning on applying to both, COM and San jac. If I get the hybrid program I'll pick San Jac, otherwise I'll stick to COM. I took my Emt-I at San Jac a couple years ago. Have you thought about doing the Paramedic-RN transition program?

My Paramedic Certs lapsed many years ago and you must be current to do that program. I did the program to work while going to college to get some experience and it worked out. But long term the pay was not there. So here I am again.

Ok so I went up to Com today and got my Educational development plan done and turned in my application. Everyone in the nursing dept is very helpful and nice. If you go to get your EDP done, go to Jameeka in the healthcare dept. I made the mistake of waiting for 45 min to see a counselor in the counseling center to be told to go see the healthcare advisor, Jameeka. She is very helpful and prints out a preview of what your personalized schedule (depending on the basics and pre nursing classes you've taken) would look like if you got accepted. She said last fall 140 applied and 75 got accepted. The application is one page front and back and easy and quick enough to fill out on the spot. Hope this helps applicants. Good luck to everyone. I look forward to attending their nursing program.. fingers crossed!

Skygirl- If you don't mind can you tell me what your total points are for College of the Mainland? I would like to know if I have a chance of getting accepted into the program.

Thanks!:D
