University of Memphis Loewenburg School of Nursing

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

I'm currently in a Nursing program here in Memphis, TN. But i'm considering transfering for reasons i've already discussed on the board.

Does anyone have any information they can share with me on the U of M's nursing program?:D

Specializes in Geriatrics, Cardiac, ICU.
:smokin::up::DGreat program. I'm a product of it.

I am applying for the 2011! I hope to get in, too:-)

I was wondering those who are in school now or recent grads - how many hrs a semester would you consider doable? Are the classes tought in summer, too?

For example, their sample schedule for the first semester:

NURS 3017 Intro/Med/Surgical Nursing 3

NURS 3018 Clinical Skills I 1

NURS 3019 Intro Med/Surg Nursing Practicum 2

NURS 3000 Pharmacology in Nursing 3

NURS 3101 Health Assessment 3

NURS 3400 Clinical Pathophysiology 3

15 credit hrs

Thanx!

i know several people and two close friends who choose to withdraw from loewenburg. one of them had to do a "withdrawal interview" because the program has had so many people who are choosing to withdraw/exit from it; they are having to conduct the interview because the state of tennessee is looking into the accreditation. just a piece of info!

U of M was just re- accredited last Fall (2009). So they are in no danger of losing it anytime soon. My sister goes there, I attend UTHSC's RN-CNL program.

I go to LSON now and I am about to start the 4th semester with Med/Surg 2. You can not fast track until 2nd semester which means those 1st semester classes you listed are the only ones you could take. 1st semester was miserable for me because they cram so many classes in one semester and it's like you barely have time to study much less sleep. As I said 2nd semester you have the option to combine semesters, for example you can take Med/Surg 1 & Psych along with O.B. and Peds but you will have 12 hour clinicals on the weekends. I have no idea how people did it. I would not recommend it though. When I took Med/Surg 1 we had a crazy teacher and I needed all of my extra time to study. But now there is a different teacher who I've heard is easier, so it may be doable...

They do offer some summer classes. I dont think you can take any Med/Surg classes in the summer though. The best classes to take in the summer is the Pediatrics class and the O.B. class along with Gero. They are already easy and a lot of people that were in my class fast-tracked over the summer this way and they said it wasnt too bad.

Hope this helps!

Thanx, def. good info

I think it is sad they try to fit in so much info in such a short time. I wonder if people actually retain the information..

I just read this, disregard question 1 of 2.Thanks
