Cumberland University night/ weekend program

Hi everyone,

I've found great information on this site about nursing schools in Middle Tennessee; thanks to all who have shared their experiences. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the new nights/ weekends BSN program that Cumberland University has recently started in Mt. Juliet. I have applied for Fall 2010 admission. We are supposed to find out admissions decisions in August.

I have heard and read great things about their established BSN program in Lebanon. I am specifically wanting to know how they plan to schedule clinical rotations at night and on the weekend. Someone recently told me that hospitals do not allow those with no nursing experience to have clinical experience outside of weekday/ daytime hours. I am concerned about attending a program that does not have all of the kinks worked out, but I am excited about this program, as it would fit very well with my family's schedule.

hi, I am going to talk with someone next week about this program and have been accepted to the University, just wondering how your experience has been? I have had trouble getting information from anyone and hope this meeting next week will be of some help. Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations on your acceptance! The program does meet at night and on the weekend. Clinicals are on the weekend, especially once you begin ones with 12- hour shifts. Some clinicals are at night. The first semester is part- time, and then you go for 4 full- time semesters. You graduate with a BSN. So far, all of the teachers also teach in the traditional daytime program. If you work during school, it is tough, just as in any program. But it is the only program in the area for non- RN's to get a BSN at night, so it's a unique opportunity. Best advice I can think of: take statistics and nutrition before you begin at Cumberland, so your schedule will be a bit lighter during 2 semesters.

Thanks so much for the information! Luckily I had already taken statistics and nutrition when obtaining my other Bachelor's and from what I understand it will count as transfer credit. I also have not found any other schools which offer this at night/weekend. Yes, I'll be working full-time during the week, but I'm blessed to have a job I really like and some tuition assistance as well. Good Luck to you as well. It sounds a lot better to hear 1 PT and 4 FT semesters vs 2 years, not sure why that is...thanks again!

I am meeting with the school tomorrow to talk about the evening nursing program there. I wanted to ask you guys how hard it is to get into the school and then into the nursing program? Any help would be appreciated!

Does anyone have any updates on their progress at CU? I have been accepted to the University, however I am planning on taking the HESI this summer for a Spring admittance. I will be going in with an Associates from a local Community College and just finishing my BSN degree. If anyone has any updates or advice I would greatly appreciate the help!
