I did telephone triage for about 10 years, some 8 or so years ago. I understand most is now done from the employees home. Can anyone give me a ROUGH idea of how much telephone triage is now paying? Again, a ROUGH idea? I'm in California physically, and I understand most (except Kaiser) are in other states.

I have a friend who is doing it from home now. I can't remember the name of the company, but she makes $25/hr with no benefits. I have another friend who lives in Oklahoma and works for a company who primarily work with worker's comp injuries related to the oil rigs. She stays very busy, makes about $70,000/yr with benefits. So, there are probably a number of options. I also have been looking for something similar and indeed.com lists United Health Group and Liberty Mutual jobs for work from home options. Good luck!

Hi.. I'm planning in moving from home health to triage nursing. I don't have too much knowledge in triage job.. do you have to be on the phone talking to people all day long? or just when you receive calls? what about paperwork? can you take calls when out of home?

In Tx are paying 28 dlls an hr.

Hi,

I have a friend who has done WC Tele Triage; one job was as a independent contractor and she got $20 a call, each call lasted about 30-45 minutes but she only got paid per call so if you covered a 12 hour shift and only received 2 calls she only got $40, but if she got 15 calls she got $300. She also had a job as WC Tele Triage and it was full time benefited M-F 0830-1700 and was paid 70K annually, both were work from home jobs. She has had both of these jobs somewhat recently so that was the pay about a year ago. Hope that helps shed a little light on some pay areas.

It looks like you received some good information. But yes CA pays more for triage nursing around $30 an hour. Other states are less, due to less taxes.

Working from home that may or may not be possible. There are hospital triage jobs where the RNs go into the hospital everyday.

We have a very large call center near here and a few of my friends work there. They do not work from home 100%. Many started in the office 5 days a week for at least the first 3-6 months, until they can prove they can meet production standards. Then once that was met they were allowed to go home 2 days per week.

And to milly, yes you would be on the phone all day long. That is how you make production. Some, okay most if not all, firms use a dialer. The dialer is on the computer and it dials the phone for you and then transfers the call to you once a person answers the line. That means your headset is on and you are ready to accept a call at all times. Once on the phone you have a set amount of time to address the call [and yes you are timed...that is also part of production]. Once you hang up from that call the next one is waiting for you to address.

Charting is done on the computer. Folks in triage learn to be fast and efficient.
