New Triage Nurse

Specialties Triage

Published

I recently began a job with a nationally affiliated triage corporation. My orientation has been very poor and most of what I know I have had to figure out myself. I can do this job and am doing well despite the poor orientation. I don't know how long to hang in there. They have canceled some of my training shifts due to lack of adeq. support staff in the office. They are blaming me for lost training time. They have been just plain nasty to me. Where do I search for other companies that perform triage??

Try searching for different companies online. You might also check with an insurance company...they sometimes have triage opportunities.

Thank you. I'm glad to hear of any opportunity. Is this the "norm" for orientation to triage? Any other difficult beginning stories out there?

Specializes in MS Home Health.

Wow I hate when you go somewhere and it is baptism by fire.

Every place has its own culture. I work in triage and the place is good. Orientation was lame, but the work is easy.

Have you asked the nurses that you work with what jobs they came from? You may be surprised to find they have all the info you need to start you in the right direction.

Specializes in Everything but psych!.

I got the orientation when I started the job. It was good and moved along only as fast as I could go. I've been in the job for 4 years now, and really enjoy it. For the most part, the work is easy and stress-free. I'm waiting for a full time job to come up here so I can quite my full time diabetes educator job and work full time in telephone triage.

Would you please PM me the name of the company?

I had been doing Peds advice/triage and am looking to continue but have no LOCAL clinics I am interested in working for.
