Teas v

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Okay, so I took the teas v about 2 weeks about and I'm taking it again in about a week and a half. I have spend a good 2 months trying to study for this. I have a 4.0 gpa, but on the test I scored a 58.7. Obviously that's awful. I need to score way better than that and I feel like my brain is fried because I have spend at least 10 hours a day the last two weeks studying and on the practice tests in still getting bad scores. I'm not really sure what to do anymore.

Any advice?

10 hours a day is a lot! I would suggest you study for a few hours each day and take breaks. What study materials are you using? I found what worked for me was the ATI Teas Study Manual, then if there was a topic that I didn't quite understand I would use Youtube to find a video on that topic. There's a great math channel on youtube, MathAntics, the videos are a little lame but they cover most of what is on the Teas V. Good luck!

Hi! Which parts were difficult for you? I found that the ATI book was very helpful. As a PP states, there are great math and science study channels on YouTube as well. Good luck!

Firstly, make sure you are even able to take the test so soon after taking the first time. Most places require a certain amount of time between takes (if you take it before the allotted time, you may be ineligible to apply or they will throw out your second test score and you will not be able to take it again for an amount of time). My school requires 30 days between takes.

10 hours a day is definitely a lot of time though. You may be burning yourself out studying so long. Try cutting it down to a few hours and one section a day. I used to do an hour or two every other day and then about 5 or 6 hours on Saturday's when I would meet with a girl from school.

I agree with mirandaaa about waiting. In the program that I applied they only allow you to take the TEAS twice in a year and some community colleges only accept the very first test you take. Maybe it would be best to give yourself some more time to study. However, if you are going to study in such a short time frame, I would focus greatly on the math, english, reading portion and try to score as high as I can on those (if the program is only looking for the overall score). The reason I say this is because you can learn the rules and how to do problems and remember them easier than trying to tackle the science where it is so broad.
