TEAS Freak out (Ivy Tech)...

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

I am completely new to this site, and have joined in hopes that there is someone out there who can give advice about how to digest info when studying for the TEAS.

I have been studying for 4 weeks now, and it's like I've learned NOTHING! Every time I study, I can't digest the info because I'm on constant freak out mode about taking this test. It's all I think about. I take it next week, June 3rd.

I go to Ivy Tech, and taking the TEAS is my last step before applying to the program. I am completing my last pre-req now (Psych) And so far i have made straight A's, So I will be getting all the pre-req admission points. The TEAS will seriously be the reason I don't get in the ASN program......

Even after studying, I took an online practice test on ATI and got a 69.8%!! HORRIBLE.

I understand all the concepts, but I can't seem to do well.

I want to hear from anyone on their TEAS situations/scores. Maybe I can get some piece of mind.

Thank you!!!!

I am also completely new to the site, but figured I could give you some peace of mind regarding the TEAS test. I recently took mine; I bought the practice books and study tips and honestly only looked through and practiced maybe 2 or 3 times. I was also super worried when it came to the day of the test, but I didn't find it to be hard at all. I got over 80% in all categories, including my composition score, and from what I have heard, that is a pretty good score. I also didn't do the best when taking the practice tests, but I found the actual test to be easier than the practice tests seemed to be. I am in no way telling you not to study, because it did help me to know what the material on the test would be like, but if you're confident, you look over practice tests and read some study tips, I have faith that you will do well! Good Luck!! Hope I eased your mind a bit!

Thanks! I have been scoring 80s in the practice ati tests in the book, but the online practice exam was harder. I have heard the actual teas is a little easier, so I am hoping it goes better!

I didn't take ATI's online practice tests, but I did take the ones in the study manual. I got an 83 on both of those. Then I took the TEAS the first time and got an 84.3. So I would say the practice tests in the book are a pretty good indicator of how you will do on the real exam.

Then I checked out the concepts that my results page said i should review and went over those in the manual (the results page will give you page numbers to review material you missed). Then I retook the TEAS and ended up getting a 94. I feel it was partially due to my studying and partially due to the fact that the questions on my second attempt were quite a bit easier. I'm not sure if your school allows multiple attempts w/o penalty, but if it does, I would definitely take it at least twice. You may end up with an easier pool of questions the second time.

As far as studying now, look in the table of contents in the study manual and highlight the specific topics with a color code based on how much review you need. For example, topics that you need to review a lot, highlight with pink. Moderate review, highlight with yellow. And little to no review can be left blank. Start reviewing the pink topics and put a check next to them as you start to master them. Then move onto the yellow, and eventually you can skim through the blank topics just as a refresher.

Also, get plenty of sleep and get something to eat! The test is long; don't go hungry!

Good luck!!

You have to understand when looking at the Teas, do not look at the percentage necessarily. Look at proficient, advanced, or exemplary. A 69.8 on the Teas is not the same as say a 69.8 on an A&P test. If you score in the upper 70s or low 80s, be happy with that score as it will be one of the higher ones. So, I'm assuming you have completed the math requirement, English 111, and A&P 101 and 102? If you have, they taught you all the info you need for this test.

The Teas test just tests whether or not you know the basics in reading, writing, math, and science. It tells the program whether any remediation beforehand is needed. That is all. It's not some secret nursing school exam that you need to study hours and hours for. People read way too much into this test.

If you have made straight A's so far, try studying the same way you'd study for any other exam. Take one subject/chapter at a time, look over it, study however it is you study and keep practicing. But most importantly, breathe!! Trust me, this one exam is not worth freaking out over. You will have many more challenging exams in the future. I went through the entire TEAS book just sections at a time, reviewed what I missed, got a 92 first try. I also had straight A's when I took it. Chill out, and do what you've been doing with classes

Just an update , I took the test on Wednesday and got an 88! I'm happy with it and for sure won't be taking it again unless I am not accepted into the upcoming spring program!

Hello! I take the test June 20 and I'm also going crazy. I have not taken my science pre reqs yet! They start in July and finish in fall just in time for the nursing program come Jan. I need to get a 60% or higher. The first time I took a practice exam on ATI site to get an idea where I was, I scored a 58% ...that was before studying. I've been studying a lot now but my nerves are still getting the best of me. It makes me nervous that I'm going into the science blind so Ive been studying the ATI science section but its so much to learn! How was the test when you took it?! If I get a passing grade Im excepted...if not....I do not get into the nursing program. I just quit my job to focus on school and signed up for a CNA course that starts June 29th so I can get my feet wet in the medical field. THIS IS HOW DEDICATED I AM! Help! Any advice is good advice for someone in my postion!
