Taking the test Tuesday...have a question!

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Hello. I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I am taking the Teas V exam on Tuesday and very nervous. My school says that I have to get a minimum percentile rank-national score of 45. What does this mean exactly? I'm a little confused on how the teas trst is scored. I have the ati study manual and have been studying it. Should a 45 be easy to obtain? Or is it going to be hard to score a 45? Thanks in advance yo anyone who answers!!!

Yes a 45 is really really low...I would be surprised if that is even proficient. Im not sure on that. You should aim for 70-80's. You look at your score at the top right hand corner of thr print out they givr you and it will give you your AIS...adjusted individual score. Meaning what you got. That should be in the 70-80 or higher! :) what have you been getting on the practice tests?

Thanks for your reply!! I thought 45 was low too, especially when I began reading other forums and most people were making 70-90%! But that is what my letter says I have to make to be able to be considered for the program...I am thinking that it is because it is a small community college that only accepts 50 students per nursing year, so maybe that is why the required score is so low and the bar is not set too high???

I have been doing fair on the practice tests, but really concerned about the science section. It has more information than I thought it would have!! Going to study like crazy today and hope for the best! I am feeling a little bit better about it if I am right about the scoring system??

Yea. That is less pressure for you!!! :) but I would still attempt to get a 70-90. You dont want to play it safe and then not get in. Good luck just keep studying until you take it!! :)

45th percentile is not the same as a 45 on the test FYI.

Your Adjusted Individual Score (AIS) is the percentage of correct answers to total questions with an adjustment factor; percentile tells you percent of people score the same or lower than your AIS.

Take a look at the other threads where people posted their scores. You'll see one with an AIS of 64.3% (which means that the person got 64.3% of the questions correct), and at that score, the national percentile rank is 52. Another poster had AIS of 55% but the national percentile rank drops dramatically to 25.

The bottom line is: I think to be safe, you should shoot for very close to or above 64%. It means that when you're doing your practice tests, you should try to get at least 64% of the questions correct in order to ensure a 45% national percentile rank.

Thank you very much for your reply! This helped me understand it much better. Wednesday is my test so I'm going to study study study!!!

Thank you!! I ended up making a national percentile rank of 52. And made 70s on every subject. I know I could have done better but I didn't do horrible and scored high enough to get into the program so I'm not complaining! Very glad to have it over with!
