The USAF is now taking direct civilian to SRNA applicants

  1. 0 "AF Recruiting command is now accepting applications for a new direct accession program to allow qualified ICU nurses to be commissioned and directly admitted to USUHS for the CRNA DNP program. If you know of anyone that may be interested in this program have them contact their local recruiter. I can also answer specific questions related to the program."

This was posted on the AF CRNA Facebook page by LtCol Alan Todd from USUHS.

What about individuals who have already been accepted to civilian program? I start in summer 2014. Any offers for these individuals?

You could apply and see what happens, but I wouldn't give up the civilian school offer until you were absolutely sure everything was done and you got into USUHS and the USAF. You could also apply for HPSP.

You would have to contact a health services recruiter to find out. I don't think a lot of qualified applicants apply for HPSP though, but I am not sure.

As someone who is ignorant of how civilian recruitment to a CRNA program works, can you explain how this differs from previously? I thought the military had already allowed civilian ICU RNs to apply for their CRNA programs? Or is it the DNP itself that is new?

Up until now only Active Duty USAF nurses could apply to the USAF/AFIT/USUHS CRNA program. This is a change that allows civilian ICU nurses to apply and come directly into the USAF and goto the USUHS CRNA program. This cuts at least 2 years off the time it would normally take for new ICU nurses coming into the USAF wanting to goto CRNA school.

Will this be for FY 2014 or FY 2015, any ideas on requirements?

My understanding is this is for the class starting next year.

The requirements are listed for the school on their website. Graduate School of Nursing- Uniformed Services University Then you also have to be able to gain entrance into the USAF as nurse corps officer. Critical Care Nurse - airforce.com

Thanks for sharing the info. It looks like the deadline was Oct. 1. Any idea if it was extended? Also, are there any max age limits for the Air Force program or the Nurse Corps (HPSP)?

Look through the faculty list at USUHS GSN department and contact LtCol Alan Todd. He can give updates if they are still accepting applicants. It isn't unusual for the military programs to extend the deadlines d/t lack of qualified applicants.
