Nurse Anesthesia or Pharm D????.......

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

I am in highschool currently. I will probably attend Rutgers University in a 4 year BSN program. What do you think about their program??? (good or bad)

WOuld you suggest that i should complete nursing, do ICU experience and then to Nurse anesthesia at UMDNJ??or Columbia???

or

Would you suggest that i should try to take some of the preliminary Pharm-D cources and try to get into the Pharmacy school at Rutger's???or Long ISland university??

Which is better? Thankyou for all you advice.

IS organic chemistry hard? Gen Bio I and II? and Gen Physics I and II? and Gen Chem I and II?

Thankyou.......

Well, would you rather be a nurse or a pharmacist??

No one here can tell you which one would be "better" -- there are too many individual, personal variables to consider. What might be a good choice for one person would be a poor choice for another, etc. I encourage you to continue to research and explore both professions (and any others in which you're interested) to arrive at the best decision for you.

The same is true of the difficulty of science courses -- some people find them hard, some people find them fairly easy. It depends on the individual.

Well, those are two totally different professions. I would suggest that you shadow a CRNA for a day and a Pharmacist for a day and see which you prefer. Only you can decide which one is the better choice.

You do realize this is a nurse anesthesia forum, right?

So, other than the obvious answer that you will get from the folks here, I would suggest job shadowing or even volunteering so you can see real life day-to-day activities of CRNA's and pharmacists to help you make up your mind.

Regarding the difficulty level of those undergrad courses, I guess that might depend on your previous background, your study habits, and your ability to retain knowledge.

I agree with the above posters that this is a nurse anesthesia site. It sounds like you need to do some more research into what you really want to do. Yes you are in high school still and you are probably five steps ahead of yourself. So once you realize that PharmD and CRNA are quite different you will then be able explore more into what is right for you. Now they do have some overlap in that anesthesia is pharmacology in action as you are giving powerful drugs and seeing response rather quickily.

Wow, I can't believe you are already thinking that far. It took finishing undergrad and 7years of working as a nurse for me to tack down what i wanted to do. Being a nurse and being a pharmacist is drastically different. If you are in a nursing program now, you'll have opportunities to learn more about what it's really about. It's still premature to stress out about making a decision at this point. Just focus on your pre-reqs and do well in them, especially your science courses, since pharm and graduate nursing programs will weigh them heavily for admissions.
