I have a question in regards to how much weight admission committees place on GRE scores. I am going to be a senior at the University of Pittsburgh this fall. I understand the requirements for most anesthesia programs (min 1 year/2 perferred in an ICU, 3.0 GPA, 1000 GRE, successful interview), but I was just curious about the GRE score. I took them yesterday, because I know the scores are "good" for 5 years, and scored a 740 math and a 530 verbal. I also agree that GRE scores are not really a good indication of abilitiy, especially in nursing specialities. I have a pretty solid GPA(3.8-3.9), but was just curious what weight this GRE score might have on my chances of getting in.

Different programs weight the GRE score differently. It's a pretty subjective test IMO. Your overall score is good and you did much better in the math section over the verbal. The admission commitees will look at the math score more than the other two. I would consider myself done with the GRE with your score.

I have a friend who got an interview with a score of 970 when the program stated that the minimum score was a 1200. From my understanding when you get the interview then it will be the rest of the package that gets you in.

It all depends on the program. Some programs dont look at the GRE at all. I did poorly on my gre (910) and received an interview. It is a poor way to determine how a applicant will perform in school.

Some schools will not offer interviews if you don't score their minimum requirements.
