I wanted to start this thread for all of the new (and current) students at Saint Joseph's College of Maine FNP program.
Any info, news, updates or questions/concerns could be asked here for all the new and current students.
Any advice that the current students can give us new students would be greatly appreciated :)
For example...
1. How many books are required for NU 501?
2. Has setting up clinicals been difficult?
3. Have the current students had any trouble communicating with your advisors? Do they get back to you promptly?
4. Overall, how has the experience been? Are you glad you are in this program?
Thanks so much!

Hello! Yes, like canchaser said, I'm going in July (11-21) for the skills workshop and health assessment. I'll be staying on campus though. I looked at hotels in the area and they are expensive d/t touring season. I think a week there is like $400 on campus, but at least it includes food and internet... plus they'll pick me up at the hotel, I don't need a rental car, etc. They're having a lobster back on Thursdays (score, I get two of those!). I'm overwhelmingly excited about July! I also have spoken to a girl in my class that is going as well.
Canchaser, that sucks! Is there anyway you can offer to buy him lunch once a week and work on it together? Im really worried about finding preceptors....
I'm disappointed!! I went into get my self a pediatric preceptor. Called 8 people yesterday and got 7 no's. the last one was a yes. I met him at the office today on his lunch break. He pulsa me into his last morning appointment introduces himself to me and me to he patient, shows me how the document the visit and prescribe. We go to a QUICK (10 minute) lunch provided by a rep. Go back to his office to do the paperwork, he starts filing it out. I then tell him about how the preceptor is to log into the typhoon on a weekly basis ( 5 minutes) or less per the clinical assistance. He then rubs his head and says I can't do it.. I want to cry right there and then!!!! But I held myself together. So now it's a deal breaker??? Waiting to hear back from school. His resume is stupendous, published three times, Washington university school of medicine staff, and the list goes on and on.. Frustrated and ready to cry. I want to get into this clinical cohort.
Fellow students .. I am doing leadership NU506 unit 3 , I am stuck on FTE s calculations.. does anybody remmember how to do that? I think I figured out the problem itself , but then professor asks "if you had four nurses who wish to work half time how many nurses total you need to hire? " I am stuck..
TX norik 95
Norik95, Calculate how many hours the four nurses would work, don't forget to subtract vacation and sick days. Subtract the number of hours they can work from the number of hours you need filled. When you see how many hours are left you can figure out how many more nurses you will need. There's no right answer...it could be two full time and one more part time nurse...or three part time nurses...

Shannon RN 09 is planning on going out there for the suturing classes and health assessment. Inbox her on allnurses and see if she knows. I think she was talking about getting a hotel. Also go to the fb page, there is a girl who has just went to campus for graduation, she might be able to give insight.
