South University FNP Questions

Hi I am thinking about applying to South University, I will be relocating to whichever campus I am accepted to. Anyone currently in the FNP program that can say if they like the campus or on ground program? Most threads have been about the online program and I would like to do the hybrid. I am most interested in the Columbia SC, Savannah GA, and Montgomery AL. Also what kind of overall expense have graduates had? There website says 48 months and 108K which seems like a lot since they require 48 credits I believe at 600 ea? I spoke to someone in admissions and she said it takes 2 years and 3 months. Maybe I missed something. Any advice or words of wisdom would be great! Thanks in advance!

i am matirculating to a better, faster, friendlier program.

I blame the instructors, the contrite academic advisor(s) (not to be confused with the friendly recruiting advisors, and the terrible e-learning platform they use (pearson e-college). They are horrible, unprofessional, dispassionate, and fail to follow university grading policies.

Considered yourself warned! Many of my peers are leaving this program to other ones.

If you are going to enroll, i recommend you pay out of pocket before you give them your student loan money. That way, if you disenroll, they will not hold back more of your student load tuition. (That is a little known trick) Do what i did and pay month to month with no money down. By the way, if you do enroll, your withdrawal period for a full refund, is only 3 days.

Do you mind me asking which program you did, State wise? And were you in an on ground program or online?

It's a for profit school. It is overpriced and doesn't care about the students. It's an embarrassment to the profession.

DO NOT waste your money on a for profit! You will regret it down the road!

A place to start is the listing of top FNP programs from US News. It has it's flaws, but the top 40 or so programs are mostly good.

I just got my BSN from South University online. I really enjoyed the experience. It's a lot of coursework and assignments but I finished with a 3.9 GPA. I looked at their np program but opted to apply to local schools instead. South is pricey, but I thought it was money well spent.

Interesting that South is pricey because I was interested in Simmons college and their price was more than double per credit hour. South is much cheaper.

I did the rn to BSN online program.

I met some South University students at one of my clinical sites and their curriculum seemed much easier than mine. Also, they did not have to serve as many clinical hours as I did (720-hours total).

Hi FL911RN! Where did you attend for your NP? Did they accept all your credits from SU or was it hassle?

It is actually 780 hours total. I attend the Tampa campus and so far I have had good instructors and some not so good. I heard some people didn't like the online program...but I am to far to turn back now..
