Seattle U - APNI 2013 - page 6
Hello everyone - this is my second time applying. A month ago, I bombed the interview! If this is your first time applying, there's a world of information from previous years, especially from the... Read More

0Nov 29, '12 by sandrabethHi Blondielocks,
I am currently a reverse commuter from Seatle to JBLM (Joint Base McChord Lewis - past Tacoma a bit) and my mornings start at about 6 am by the time I get on the road. I spend over 3 hours a day (100+miles) commuting and that is opposite traffic. I feel bad for the commuters coming from the South into Seattle.
If I may offer a bit of advice. Really consider your options, your time is the biggest factor. It is 3+ hours that takes away from your studies, in your case with weather it could take you 3 hours or more each way if weather is bad. The longest it took me to get home was 3.5 hours, it was awful! I have a good job, but it is really not worth my time, the study time I have lost and money I spend filling up on gas each month, I average $200+. I would not recommend that commute to anyone!
There can be temporary situations in that people might offer a "crash-pad" during the week and you can go to Oly for the weekends and long breaks. There could be some commuters who share your situation and you could all share a living arrangement that makes sense economically. Or make friends with some classmates in Seattle you may only need to stay a couple nights a week depending on your class/clinical schedule in exchange for offering to throw down some for bills. I believe things will work out when you are on the right path so hang in there, there is a solution.
You might be asking why I didn't move South and why commute? My goals and future is in Seattle and I knew I would only be working here short-term. I am counting the days until I leave (because I get into a nursing program-fingers crossed).
0Nov 30, '12 by cureacI called graduate admissions and they told me they can't check to see if my transcripts, letters and test scores have been received because I don't have an ID yet. From what I know they usually send you an ID via mail once your application is complete. Do you guys know if there is a way to check if all the materials have been received?
0Dec 1, '12 by Calincacureac, I don't. I just know that you can check your status once you receive the student ID#.
How's everybody at this point? Everyone feeling lighter? Now we just have to wait another couple months.
0Dec 2, '12 by blondielocksSandrabeth - thank you for the feedback. It is much appreciated. I have just accepted a position in DuPont where I will be working until I get into nursing school - hopefully Summer 2014. I've been thinking A LOT about this because I'm a planner/type-A, and despite the money saved, I think everyone's advice is right when they say to just suck up the cost and find a way to have a studio/crashpad in Seattle.
Good luck to everyone who is applying for the 2013 cohort!
0Dec 4, '12 by CybercereHi All,
I'm new to the Board and applied for the SU program in the Psych track. Do you know when we will hear back regarding interviews?
Thanks and good luck to all!
0Dec 4, '12 by CalincaCerise I'm not on my computer right now but I think it was towards the end of January. Things got delayed considerably earlier this year because of that snow storm in January so I'm expecting it to be a week earlier if the weather cooperates. I will post here as soon as have access to my old emails.
0Dec 5, '12 by Calincaok, so in Janruary the school contacted us to give us a little idea of when more or less we would receive the news for the interview. I received my invitation to the interview on february 11 for midwifery and if I'm not mistaken I interviewed on february 25th. A lot of people received invitations and denial throughout that week. Again, everything was delayed at least one week because of the snowstorm, so I'm expecting things to go a week earlier. Hope that helps.

We finished our Obstetrics final yesterday. It was a doozy but now we are moving on to Pediatrics and Mental Health in January.
I thought of you when I was at Valley Medical doing my clinical and working with the midwives and L&D nurses.
You will be a great fit in the program and in the practice. Your dedication to entering this program and this field will certainly come to fruition and I look forward to seeing your smiling face at orientation next June.
If the school only realized what diligence you've shown in helping and comforting other applicants for the past couple of years you'd be a shoo-in.
Best of luck and happy holidays.
0Dec 6, '12 by CalincaCura, this was the best holiday wishes ever! Thanks you so much! I should frame it and put it on my tree.
I see Ali's and other's posts in my facebook so I was somewhat in the loop about what is going on. So nice of you to remember about the Valley! It will be interesting when I go there again, so many memories, from going to every appointment during my first pregnancy to finally delivering. I haven't been in Renton in a while, but every time I go to Ikea I have to look at the building and sigh. I honestly had not so good moments there, but I always remember the good parts.
I feel mentally prepared this time, I have a lot more confidence in myself this time around. It will be great to meet you!
Happy holidays to you and your family and have fun next quarter!

Has anyone else applied to other schools? I was looking at a school in California, but I'm not sure I want to go that far. Seattle's my home, so I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot with applying to just one school.
