Is anyone applying or have been accepted into the Samuel Merrit Online FNP for the summer 2015 cohort ? If so, I would like to get a thread to discuss the program and get some support.

Hello! I just got my acceptance letter today for the Hybrid program at the Oakland campus. Congratulations on getting into the online cohort! I was wondering where you guys would learn your skills? To my understanding, the hybrid classes will have all theory online, and we have 8am-6pm labs learning skill 3 Saturdays out of the month.

Good question! As I have no idea. This is the first online completely cohort. I'm not sure how that part works. I was given an unofficial acceptance by the director of the program. I have a lot of questions and was hoping to connect with people on this forum. May I ask if your official acceptance was received in email or an actual letter in the mail? When does your cohort start ? Congrats !

Oh man, the waiting process what unbarable! Were you panicing since it took awhile for them to send out acceptance letters, and the timeline said they were to be sent out on the 13th?! it kind of makes me skeptical as to how organize the program is. received an unofficial letter from the director as well. I accepted right away since it was the only school I applied for, but I have yet to get the official admissions email. I know that there's an on campus orientation in the beginning half of April. Don't quote me on it, but I think the online cohort is invited as well. We start on May 4th.

I just got the official acceptance today as well as login information. I'm scared of the organization as well as l will be starting the first online cohort. I wish I could pm you but I think we are too new to send private msgs. That's my start date as well. I believe she said the orientation for me is mid April but I would have a Video/personal kinda thing if I can't make it to campus. Do you plan to work while in this program?

I have yet to get my official admission email. I'm kind of worried since (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME - PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES OF THOSE IN YOUR PROGRAM PER TOS) hasn't been the best at replying, and that she may have overlooked my email informing her that i accepted. Maybe i'm being a little paranoid. I'm actually a new grad RN, and have yet to find employment. Samuel Merritt is actually my alma mater. I would definitely work if I could find a job. It's definitely doable from what i heard from previous fnp students. i wish i could PM you! can i ask why you chose the online program oppose to the hybrid?

Dont worry, they'll get to your official acceptance as it took them a week to send me mine. I think its Bc they have to set up your email account and student portal. Im glad you heard it's doable to work. I wonder if our course layout is any different. I chose the online program bc I'm living in Los Angeles. I've heard good things about SMU and I make norcal trips often so it works out best for me. Does your hybrid program set up clinical sites for you? Since mine is online, I believe we play a big part in doing it ourselves , or with limited help. I have a few friends and connections so I think I'll be ok, but it still worries me a bit. I'm so used to nursing school where you're told where to go. Maybe we can get a facebook group set up?

Oopps, I didn't know I could name drop . My friend whom just graduated from the ELSMN-FNP, told me that she was frustrated 75% of the time because SMU had trouble finding placements for them. I read online that this program can be a little disorganized, in that sense. I read a thread about someone that went to this program and chose preceptorship in the ER, and that they also took emergency medicine, a class she did with PAs at SMU. I'm trying to do that as well, so I think I'll be looking for my own preceptors.

Did you request to have your application be sent to the DNP department? I was thinking about it, but like you said, I'm kind of scared of not having the guidance that we received in nursing school.

I wouldn't mind being in the facebook group... Now the problem is giving each other our private info without the use of PMing.

As with anyone who reads this thread to get further help with this program and support :)

Actually it's Samuel Merritt FNP summer 2015 cohorts

Hey guys. I just submitted my application for the online FNP today. I just found out about the program...so I'm kind of late. Congratulations to everyone already accepted. How exciting. I'm actually transferring from an FNP program in NC, so I'm hopeful that they will accept all 15 credits. Fingers crossed because that would be a big load off my first few semesters. Anywho, how long after submitting your application did you have to wait to hear that you were accepted? I'm glad someone made this thread because it's very helpful and nice to know a few others going through this with me as well :)
