PMHNP question

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hey guys! I am currently in a BSN program right now, and I decided on nursing as a second career with the specific goal of becoming a psych nurse practitioner. I have a bachelor's in health science and a minor in psych with 6 years experience in mental health as a recreation therapist. Does anyone know of any schools that would allow me to take some graduate level courses towards my PMHNP while I'm finishing my BSN? I would really love to knock out a semester of grad school while I finish this BSN. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I could be wrong, but I believe that in order to take any grad level courses you need to be accepted into the grad school first. The requirements most likely require your completed BSN as a pre-req for the beginning level grad school courses. There are schools that do RN-MSN that shave some time off.

You'll need your BSN. I have yet to see any RN-PMHNP programs out there. You could do a general MSN program then do a PMHNP post cert. Good luck!
