PASSED ANCC AGPCNP

Hello

I just wanted to share my experience on how I study for the ANCC AGPCNP. This site was very helpful on calming my nerves whiles studying. Hope this help someone.

  1. Length of study: I will like to say that you have to know your study pattern and what work best for you? Are you an intense 8 hr/day study person or do you retain information better with 3-4hr/day. I study for a total of 4weeks for this test but the last two weeks I spent an average of 6-8hrs a day studying with multiple breaks throughout the day.
  2. I took the life review with Dr Mary Kellermann. She had a very fun way of helping you remember important information. I mostly used her materials for the clinical aspect of the exam. But I will say for this ANCC exam, I will not have passed if I used just her information. My test consisted about 30% clinical. Dr Kellermann did covered other topics like ethic, culture, older adult, professional issues etc... Which was big on my exam but her information was not enough. As other people had said, No single materiel should be used for this text. Multiple resource is the name of the game.
  3. I also used http://familynpprep.com/. I bought 15 exam (100 questions each) of the ANCC Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP-BC). On the third week of my study I did a text a day and the last 5days, I increase it to two text a day. Also I reviewed and read the rational of every single question. I'm sure you have read from other site that some of the questions are bad or spellings mistake...but Overall I WILL RECOMMEND THIS SITE. It is heavy on the content that is tested on the exam. Passing rate is 350 and as you can see I was barely passing on most of the test but passing is passing. I will repeat myself, this site really helped with the nonclinical part of the exam.

4. Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Certification Intensive Review: Fast Facts and Practice Questions, Second Edition Paperback - by Maria T. Codina Leik .

I liked this book. A friend gave me her copy during the last week. I concentrated on the section on professional issues and gerontological reviews. This two section was about 50% of my exam and this book cover all the necessary topics. Wish I had this book at the beginning of my study. I did not have the time to do any of the questions in this book.

5. Use the ANCC website for example of the multiple answer questions and picture questions. They helped answer my questions about it and reduced me anxiety about them. On the actual exam I had about 10 questions. I looked at it as an equivalent of EXCEPT question, three of the answer is right so choose the three.

6. I Google the skin conditions or retinopathy or conditions that you have to identify for the picture questions. That helped and there are a few on the actual exam.

7. Overall remember: common conditions will be common on the test. Master the DM, HTN, thyroids, syndrome X and you will be fine. Remember you have completed the program so you are capable of passing this exam TOO. Repeat it in your mind, believe it in your heart and PRAY.

Good Luck.

awesome. great study tips and such. i won't sit for boards for about 2 years yet, but this is really helpful! congrats to you!!!!

Glad to see you are using the familnpprep examinations from examedge.com. I am studying for my FNP boards which I plan of taking in a couple of weeks, and have been using their AANP equivalent FNP exams. My scores range in the low-high 70's, similar to yours, and when I took the practice AANP exam which I got an 83 on, I thought the questions were very similar. This site has been mixed on these exams, so I'm glad someone else is finding them useful.

Hi, Did you take the exam. I need help with studying....

Thank you for the good tips! I am planning to buy the Leik book. Any other texts or classes anyone would recommend?

Thank you ! I will take my ANCC exam in a few weeks and I am so scared I will not pass. I had not heard of familympprep. I will definitely order them. I am reading the Leik book now. I started making cash cards but soon decided there was too much information and time to continue. Thank you for your help.
