Online FNP program from abroad

Hello! I am wanting to apply for an FNP program but am unsure which to go with due to my situation. My husband is going to be stationed in Germany for 3-4 years so I will be going with him.

I will need to find an online program, with very few or no site visits required. I'm not picky about whether it is a master's or DNP program at this point. I also am not sure about the clinical requirements. I'm assuming that I will be able to complete clinicals at the military hospitals/clinics, but have not confirmed that with anyone yet.

I also am hoping for a program that isn't TOO expensive, as I will be paying out of pocket, or taking out loans when available.

Anyone have any suggestions on a program that would fit this criteria? Has anyone done clinicals abroad?

Thank you so much!

I would first work to make sure you could secure clinicals. If you cannot complete clinicals on the military base because you cannot find preceptors, then you could be stuck with a degree that you cannot move forward with.

I agree with the previous post. You need to make sure you can get appropriate preceptors in Germany. You'll need to speak with the individual advisors at the schools you apply to just to make sure.

There are many programs that have good tuition rates and only 1 or 2 onsite visits required, but I'm not sure you'll be able to do the clinical portion unless you can get preceptors on your military base.

Best of luck to you! Hopefully, you'll be able to accomplish your goal.

Check with local MTF's (like Landsthul Regional Medical Center if stationed nearby). They will definitely have MD's, NP's, for clinicals.

I am going to comment like everyone else and say WAIT until you get to Germany and make sure you can find preceptors. I know many nursing spouses that could not find RN work in Germany so I would assume that finding preceptors could also be difficult. Please don't start a program until you know for positive that A) You can find multiple people willing to precept you and B) Your school will allow your clinicals to be in another country.

I was in the Army for 8 years, I know the base will have medical, but the extent of what you need and what is available might not be sufficient for the school you attend.

Good Luck

Thank you, I will definitely check into the preceptor situation before enrolling in a program. I guess at this point, my question is more to narrow down which programs to look into, and then I will start the legwork of speaking with advisors and contacting the appropriate people in Germany.

I am currently in this same situation and was wondering if you were able to find a preceptor in Germany.
