How did you pass the ANCC certification exam?

I've heard Margaret Fitzgeralds stuff is the best but seems like ANCC's stuff would focus more on the test content. I just graduated with my MSN FNP and want to get certified on the first try. Any suggestions?

I passed the AANP about 2 weeks ago, I chose not to do the ANCC, didn't want to have to keep up with 2 recertifications!!.......... I used the Fitzgerald and APEA review disk's, and couple of books for review..

Hey Aaron I take the ANCC on 19th what made the ANCC easier. Most of my classmates are doing AANP, because the word is that it's harder to pass ANCC. I am following outline on ANCC's website is that what you used for studying.

Hey loved thanks for the advice. I take ANCC in 3 days are there any last minute advice. I am so nervous and hope to pass on first try.

jhunursie,

I'm not Aaron, but I took both b/c I was curious, and b/c I thought if I failed one I'd have a back up plan! I thought they were essentially interchangeable and one did not seem any harder to me than the other. They were both challenging but not hair pulling impossible. You just have to take your time, read the questions through and think logically.

Unless I find some compelling reason to change my mind, I will probably let ANCC lapse and just maintain AANP. I really like that organization a bit better, and less headache to maintain is a big selling point. I think students are the only ones who think about this issue, lol. I always asked my preceptors in school and none of them had any opinion either way and so far in the work sector it hasn't mattered a whit.

Relax, you're ready!

Linearthinker, I take ANCC tomorrow any last minute suggestions? I am beginning to panic and can't focus.

I passed ANCC today wasn't as bad as I expected. I used Fitzgerald review book which was very good. I did Aimlee review, but wasn't enough to prepare for ANCC cert. If you plan to take ANCC I suggest Fitzgerald. I also used ANCC outline for test as a guide which helped a lot. Most questions are critical thinking.

Hey, sorry I just got back to this. My suggestion would have been breathe! But you didn't need any suggestions from me, you did it! Congratulations, I am so proud of you. Celebrate!

congratulations on passing the ANCC. How long did you prepare for the exam and do you remember specific questions?

kellynp...i'm so sorry to hear that u didn't pass..it IS frustrating that in all the books we use to review there isn't as much emphasis on the research/politics/theory components as much as there is clinical emphasis...i'm sure the 2nd time around u'll do great!!! i'll keep u in my thoughts..!

i had a friend of mine tell me 2 questions that were on the exam...i'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on what they think the answers are...

1) women are asked to keep a menstrual calendar...the question then further asks (not in so many words) the data thats collected from the women would be what type of data? this is a research question...my friend wasn't able to really articulate exactly how the question was worded

2) the other question that was apparently on the exam (again in not so many words) was what would u do if u were with ur patient and another np is talking about confidential information in the same room with her pt...

would you: a) take ur patient outside of the room while this information is being relayed to keep it confidential

b) report the np for breaching confidentiality

c) tell the np to lower her voice down as the other patient can hear her

thoughts?

congrats! now i have to ask...fitz is a great book for clinical..but what other resources did u dive into for the politics/theory/research components on the exam?

Hey, Marion I studied for a month. I reviewed info on ANA scope of practice, HIPPA, cultural sensitivity, Piaget, Erickson, research designs amd NP licensure. Most questions were critical thinking and prioritizing by treat most important issue.

Thank you for your reply, I will make sure to look over the items you recommended.
