How did you pass the ANCC certification exam?

I've heard Margaret Fitzgeralds stuff is the best but seems like ANCC's stuff would focus more on the test content. I just graduated with my MSN FNP and want to get certified on the first try. Any suggestions?

Good job,

I am very excited for you. Thank you for the information. I will try your same strategy. If you can think or recall anything please keep us future test takers updated

Redwings and Jazzy ANP, I really liked the FNP Certification Intensive Review book by Leik. Stick to the basics. She gives some good tips on what to know and study. If you are memorizing drug doses and fine details you are studing too much. Know the general drug category names. Know different tests (ie musculoskeletal and abdominal). The workbook with the Fitzgerald Audio CD's breaks up all these tests nicely in charts for the Musculoskeletal exams, abdominal pain, and others. Think basic --remember this is an entry level exam for NP's, so they are testing our general knowledge. I caught myself trying to read too much into the question and was thinking they were trick questions. I had to snap out of that and think simple and basic. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. I look on line and Leik sounds like a great review book . I will do as you said, stick to the basics. I will remember that. Think basic.

That's great but howcome the JoAnn Zerwekh MSN EdD RN (Author), Jo Carol Claborn MS RN (Author) book isn't being sold online? http://www.amazon.com/Family-Nurse-Practitioner-Certification-Review/dp/0721682499/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1298869060&sr=8-6

Maybe it is but for >$300?

Would the 2007 version suffice? I recently bought the FNP review manual from ANCC for $100. It seems basic as well. Tons of information in there. I've been told not to use Harrison's or the other primary care textbooks because it may have so much information that won't do me too much good for the test.

Anyone think the Fitzgerald Cert Review book/CDs+manual that came with it, and the ANCC FNP review manual would suffice for studying for the AANP and ANCC exam? I was planning to also use the ANCC's manual for the AANP exam as well.

I would not do the 2007. Take the webinar class with me. It will start Mar 12-13, 19-20 and 26th. It is with Leik. It is a fair price and it is live. I am really excited about this. I think if you just stick to the Fitzagerald stuff. I bought the Barkely with the CD's. I hope to test in May if I can retain it all. It sounds like you have a lot of great stuff for review. When do you plan on taking the AANP? Keep me posted I will be praying for you and anyone else that is getting ready to test. I wonder how JAZY is doing. Keep me posted :D

I recently passed the ANCC exam and attended Fitzgerald's seminar and used her 3rd edition certification review book, along with reviewing some pathophysiology, and managed to pass. I was blown away by the amount of theory, policy, and NP role issues. Very little attention to clinical knowledge...I basically looked for the best answer and hoped for the best!

Great job I am so happy for you.

Let me know if you hear of anyone taking the AANP lately I took Leik webinar and enjoyed it. I will let you know when I am done with my test. Keep your prayers just flowing for the rest of us that still have to take it. Thanks for your input regarding the study material that helped you succed. :yeah::up:

Dr. Fitzgerald was very positive about the AANP exams at the seminar I attended in February, and did say that they were more clinically focused than the ANCC exam. It was a bit more difficult to prepare for the policy component of the exam, given that I am Canadian and unfamiliar with Medicaid/Medicare etc. I wish you the best of luck on the exam!

I passed AANP in January. Used the Fitzgerald review book and the Barkley and Associates home study course. I wasn't planning on taking a review course, but needed another credit hour my last semester due to financial aid and it qualified as an independent study. I don't think it was wasted money, but I liked the layout of the Fitzgerald book better.

Good job on your success and very excited to hear good news. I wil be taking aanp family exam so much material. I bought the barkeys home review and half of the tapes were on kids very surprised. I thank all of you for your input. I failed the aanp FNP exam on January and very afraid of that happening again. I am only allowed two times a year. I am terrible with roles, policy etc . I failed the ancc FNP feburary. I very proud of all of you. :yeah::lol2:

For those that have passed the ANCC, anyone interested in selling their Amilee CDs along with the manual? After reading all the posts, it is evident that most feel Amilee & Fitzgerald prepares you well.
