Hello All,I've been working for two years now as a pediatric ER nurse and have recently been researching to advance my career as a FNP. I have spoken to a few coworkers who are currently enrolled in the PNP program at Florida International University and they say most of it is online. I am a little hesitant of this as I work better in a classroom setting and prefer the hands on approach. I heard the University of Miami might be more fitting for me because of this. I just want to get the most out of my education. My question is, is it worth it? The FNP program at UM is around $ 36,000 vs FIU's which is approximately $18,000. I don't know much about Barry's FNP program but if any of you can give me your input or any current or past Miami FNP students/ grads can give your opinions, I would very much appreciate it!!Thanks!

Maybe try enpnetwork.com?

I saw they help students find preceptors.

University of Miami FNP program sounds like one of the best honestly. When did their program first take its first class? And how many students are accepted for each cohort? It sounds like other FNP school in florida need to follow a similar approach to UM- bc from looking at other schools, it seems like not all of them are organized n many don't help you find a preceptor… And I don't understand how some schools only offer a part-time track (which would take 2-3 years)

Hello, I just did my interview for UM-MSN Primary Care Adult Gerontology today 3/26/15 and I think i did fairly well. Can I talk to you about your experiences so far. I got the books and began studying the material in hopes, I have better preparation for these 4 courses in the first semester. Are used book okay or access required preferred/required. Email me please or reply to this comment. THANK YOU PRAY I'M IN

Well not to discourage you I also had an interview. I did well but was not chosen for the program. They told me at the interview they would make a recommendation but not the decision. apparently it's up to a committee which I think is unfair. Someone who never met or spoken me decides on my acceptance?? Well am a firm believer what's for you is for you & when one door closes another opens. I have an interview with a FAU. I graduated there with my BSN. It's closer to my house. And way cheaper. Good luck to you. God bless.

Wow that really drop my hopes. However, I too am a firm believer that " Everything happens for a reason". I can only hope that, I am accepted.

They told me I'll hear from them in 2-3 weeks. That turned into 2 months ! So it was such a let down to wait all that time for them to deny me. I can say after I got the letter such a weight was lifted from my shoulders. As I mentioned before I have an interview with FAU and waiting to hear something also from Barry. Don't stress :) because at the end of the day what's for you, will be yours ultimately.

Hi, how much RN experience do you need to have before applying to any of these schools ??

Does anybody know if icu experience is required for the ACNP program at UM?

I just applied to UM FNP part-time program. I'm at the beginning stages. I would like to get feedback from someone who is currently in the program. I would like to know how the classes are on campus, workload, exams. Is it manageable working full time.

Thank you

:)

I believe one has to have one year of critical experience according to the U of M ACNP brochure.

Hello Stacylee.

I am an RN on ICCU full time, and I am applying for the 1 year FNP UM.I am very happy that at least one can work part time. THANKS for that information. Could you tell me please how is a typical week on clinical and classroom hours and/or days on each semester.(I am aware that it varies) I just want an estimate ,please.
