FNP School and working?

I start clinicals June 1st and I worked until about 40 days ago..or so. Patho & Advanced Pharm at the same time did it for me. I found that I either had time to do the coursework or actually learn...so I did the coursework, and aced the courses but learned verry little. I found this unacceptable, so I bailed my nightshift ICU gig and have been studying 7 days a week since in an attempt to get caught up before clinicals. I wont get caught up, but its better than it would have been if I'd continued working.

I'm just like you....no idea what clinicals has in store for me so I'm just waiting to see what I can tolerate. This summer I only have family, but in the fall I do OB & peds together; its hard to imagine I'll be able to work doing both of those at the same time...who knows. Hang in there!!!

I had planned on working full time until I started clinicals but that quickly changed when I started my first semester. My program started off with patho and another class and the workload was too much for me so I went PRN on the med surg floor I worked on. It was a great decision for me and a few of friends in the program did the same. A lot of students in the program still work full time so it just depends on the person. We start clinicals our second year which will be in the fall and we'll need 180 hours. I plan on working a few shifts since I'll be in clincials maybe 2 days out of the week. It should be do-able if you work PRN since you'll be able to make the schedule yourself. That'll give you some flexibility! Hope everything works out for you and good luck!

Thank you guys for the advice it is truly appreciated!

I am wondering, if it is even worth it at this point to get a PRN job. Will it look better when I apply for my NP Job that I have more recent experience? Or do they not care because you're in school?
