Soon to start Clinicals need tips!
Yes! I've read in the reviews that there are several mistakes relating to the content but you can easily find which questions they are by doing a google search. So far I like the book! I think it'll come in useful in preparing for clinicals.

Soon to start Clinicals need tips!
I'm also starting clinicals in the fall and my school requires us to buy the Lexicomp app. It has drug information and a clinical diagnosis tool that's suppose to be helpful. I'm waiting on a discount code from my coordinator before I buy it so I haven't used it yet but maybe you can look into that! To prepare myself I also bought the Maria Leik review book to study and I love it so far. It breaks down everything from pharmacology and by each system. It's also a great way to start preparing for your boards! I found a great deal on Amazon. Hope this helps!

FNP School and working?
I had planned on working full time until I started clinicals but that quickly changed when I started my first semester. My program started off with patho and another class and the workload was too much for me so I went PRN on the med surg floor I worked on. It was a great decision for me and a few of friends in the program did the same. A lot of students in the program still work full time so it just depends on the person. We start clinicals our second year which will be in the fall and we'll need 180 hours. I plan on working a few shifts since I'll be in clincials maybe 2 days out of the week. It should be do-able if you work PRN since you'll be able to make the schedule yourself. That'll give you some flexibility! Hope everything works out for you and good luck!

Is it worth the money to become an NP? (read this, I promise it's good)
I say go for it! You seem to be very motivated and passionate about taking care of that population of patients! You already have a plan for how you would pay for it so I would definitely look into programs at public schools compared to private schools so it's less expensive. Start with programs in your state first. It seems like many are enrolling in NP programs but I wouldn't worry about a shortage of jobs because currently NPs are filling the gap in the primary care provider (MDs/DOs) shortage we're experiencing. It's a great way to advance your career! You'll have more work stress compared to your current job but you'll also be making more. Go for an FNP program for more job opportunities. If you wait for the "right" time then something will always come up so may as well enroll and get it over with! The time flies by!

Transferring from Troy NP to UAB NP
I can't message yet since I just started on allnurses but I'm currently attending the FNP program at UAB. Go to the UAB MSN school of nursing homepage. Click on "contact us" on the right side of the page and find CB, the MSN program manager. She'll be the one to get in touch with and she should be able to give you all the info. Hope this helps!

Early preparation for the FNP boards
Hi everyone! In the fall I'll be entering my second year of the FNP program at UAB. I figured now would be a good time to get a good review book to start preparing for boards. To the people who have already passed boards or are in the process of taking the boards now, what do you recommend while you're still going through the program? Also, what are your opinions on the Barkley review? I have heard great things about the Fitzgerald review and had decided to take that review course closer to graduation but I recently found out my program requires us to take the Barkley review in our last semester. How do the two compare against each other? Thanks!
