I received word today that I was accepted into the PNP program at Univeristy. I'm just wondering if anyone has been through it or going through it and what you have to share about it.

I'm currently working 2 12 hour night shifts a week and hope to do that for at least the first 2 years. I'm not sure about that final year. I'm used to juggling a lot...5 kids, working, did my RN with 4 of them and my BSN while pregnant with and while #5 was newborn.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows if they help find preceptor sites.

Really any information you have to share would be very much appreciated!

Thank you!

I am interested in this program. Can you live anywhere or only certain areas to apply?

I also work night shift 3 x week and I am a single mother. It intimidates me to go back to school but I think it's time.

Congrats on getting in!!! I'm heading into my last semester. For my 1st 2 years i worked days and nights 3 12's a week. ANd for my clincal year i got a weekend job (2 nights a week) so i can leave my week days free for clinicals. I think you will be fine with school with ur current schedule. Good luck with everything!

Hi pedsnp2b2013. Do the papers just keep adding or do they start having tests at some point? I've had nurs 500, 502 and info 526 and each class has at least one 10 page paper. Did you do the online program?

Pnp2b did you go to ? I saw somewhere you went to villanova.

Irishizrn- how many classes are you going to take each quarter? I was doing 3 12s night shift but it was too much. The time spent researching and writing is intense.

This quarter I'm doing 2 and next quarter I'm doing 3 classes. I actually left my position in June. I was concerned about the safety of my nursing license because of some things happening on the floor. If I wasn't planning on leaving to be an NP I would have stayed and fought it like others...but as I had no intention of being there much longer I decided to just leave. It just wasn't worth the stress it was causing. Plus beside school and work I have more than the average number of kids...I have 5. There is one still in diapers and 2 with feeding tubes and 1 with autism. So it wasn't even like I was juggling normal kids. Plus, we decided to pull our children from the local district and they are cyber schooling next year. There were so many reasons to leave my job and concern for my nursing license just pushed it over the edge.

I'll still be doing substitute school nursing. I'm also going to be working with the state for lactation education seminars for doctor offices. So still doing some working...just left my traditional position.

I'm pretty sure anyone can apply. You just have to know that you do have to travel to Philly a few times. I also don't know about clinicals being too far away...not sure how that works.

I've done Nurs 500, 502, 527, RSCH 519, 523, Info 526 and I'm now doing Nurs548 and a CIT course. The 548 has quizzes, tests and minipapers. I know pharm has tests. The elective I'm doing has 2 tests and 1 15 page paper.

How was 519, 523, and 527? Lots of papers? I'm in the MSN CNL but so far it is not what I expected. Maybe it gets better.

For those who have completed the Peds NP via - once you've completed all clinical hours and didactic courses do you have to take a comprehensive exam in order to receive your diploma and the paperwork to sit for boards? I know there are a couple of schools that require you to "test out" of there program before they will give you your degree.
