Barkley review CDs BEFORE clinicals?

Hi everyone- I am about half way through my FNP program and starting the full time clinical portion next winter (small clinical requirements built into earlier classes, but JUST clinical next yr). Anyhow, I tend to be a heck of a memorizer and wondering if buying an older version of Barkley CDs (or Fitzgerald) and listening to them NOW will help?

Also, I have heard that Barkley are generally more suited to the ANCC (which is what i'm taking). Any suggestions of what will help specific to review programs for THAT exam is appreciated! thanks

I think it'd help. Over the years there are changes but it's not like everything will be outdated. You'll still get some good clinical pearls.

Just make sure your last semester or so to get a new version. Or if you're really a year from graduation you might just get new ones now then just refresh yourself on any fairly recent guidelines.

Besides JNC-8 and the newer hyperlipidemia guidelines I'm not sure there's any major changes coming. My 2014 Hollier review touched on JNC 7 and 8 so I was good if I took it in 2014 or 2015.

Keep in mind it takes about 12-18 months or so (if I remember right) for new guidelines to make it onto the exams!

thanks for a good suggestion! i will buy the older set now, and when i am closer to graduation, maybe sell those to somebody behind me in school and upgrade to a new set. thanks!

Buying the older CDs will definitely help you with clinicals. You do not have to upgrade to the newer CDs later on. Guidelines do not change that often and even if they did change they do not appear on the test until a 1.5 to 2 years after they are published. You can google them on the internet and take some notes.

thanks for the input! i really appreciate...
