Anybody take those cost of living loans during school?

I'm going to be looking at NP clinicals soon and I'm thinking ahead. The program is fairly rigorous and I work nights. It's a very flexible job which I love, however I'm going to be using a good chunk of PTO during clinical, and then probably going per diem in the last 2 clinical semesters, which are SUPER busy. Plus, my sleep is so distorted that I'm going to probably really struggle with effective learning because i'm so dang sleep deprived. I want to do everything I can do to successfully navigate the program.

So...I carry the benefits for myself and kids and bring home the bulk of income. My hubs has benefits available at a pretty steep rate. BUT, we have to have them. So I was researching and the suggestion of taking one of those loans that goes over and above your cost of schooling to help with cost of living. I am not sure about them, looking for any info about them.

also, does anybody have suggestions for short term disability insurance? I'm scared to death i'll be without it then be driving to clinical and get in an accident or fall ill, etc. We are Dave Ramsey fans, I was considering Zander????

Birkie: loans are bad enough but often necessary in today's hyperinflated tuition environment.

But they must be used judiciously or paying them off over time will onorously increase your effective tax rate going forwards as to render any real increase in your earnings over time moot.

If that's not bad enough, taking out loans to cover the everyday cost of living while going to school is just "dang" foolish.

Just ask Dave.

Dave-er here too: How much lifestyle can you cut back?

Just wondering if anybody had any knowledge of them. I don't think I'll get to this point. We are doing ok and cutting back in a HUGE manner to make this all work. Good news is I probably only have 4 semesters left and I am saving PTO like crazy to afford as much time off as I can, while still paying towards benefits. So all is good. thankfully!
