    Tijoux, can you clarify something for me?

    This is a copy and paste snippet from your original post in this thread;

    I am about to finish nursing school in South Carolina and after having a very very close friend loose her license, after seeing the abuse of authority and power and tyrannical behavior by South Carolina's BON I am now afraid to apply for or obtain an RN nurse license in the state.

    Here is a copy and paste of one of your posts written December 9, 2009, from a thread titled "SC Nursing Board Abuses Power & Authority":

    OMG!!!! How do they get away with that kind of behavior!!!!! I thought we fought wars over this sort of tyranny? I'll be sure to AVOID South Carolina when I finish nursing school!!! It's no wonder there is a nursing shortage.

    You'll be sure to avoid South Carolina? Are you in nursing school in South Carolina or aren't you? What's the agenda? What's the caper?

    I must say...I'm unfortunately under investigation by the SC BON...and it is justified....but my license will not be suspended...I must jump through their hoops....what the OP is claiming just sounds ridiculous after my own experience with the board. As for an attorney being unwilling to work with the BON? What, did you call a personal injury attorney you saw at a bus stop? I could recommend several established attorneys with BON experience. Or your "friend" could...wait, I should just stop here.

    I agree we nurses take the oath and the practice act for granted. It is a bible of nursing codes. Until you are investigated and disciplined you may never care to acknowledge the practice act. I suggest to any nurse, take time and read the disciplinary actions posted on the boards website.

    The "oath" is a sentimental throwback with no binding meaning. It is each state's nurse practice act that determines how its nurses practice. It is the bible, and you'd best pay attention to it.

    I'm having a little trouble with this one. I'm not saying your friend is lying, but I had a good friend who was diverting and was eventually caught. They did everything in their power to help her keep her license. They let her go to rehab the 1st, the 2nd time, and even a 3rd time. She drug tested positive all 3 times. This went on over a span of 2 years. They suspended her license and once she went thru the steps they granted them back to her. Eventually, she almost killed a patient because she was too drugged up to even know what world she was in. They finally took them from her. Thank God! She doesnt need to be around drugs... she is an addict and it would be like an alcoholic working behind a bar. Sadly our friendship didn't work out... I stuck by her for a long time, but she started stealing money from me so she could buy drugs. This woman was not like this when she and I first met. She was a totally different person... she changed very slowly and I didn't even know she was diverting and I worked at the same facility as she did back in those days. People can fool you.

    I get the feeling this discussion is going nowhere. I've lived here all my life. I know members of the board. They are professional Nurses from all parts of the state. I don't remember a tyrant there, maybe she was out sick or something. Go to LLR and then SCBON and you can actually watch streaming video of their meetings.
    I'd advise you to allow your friend to conduct her own business and you not assume anything at all about our state unless it directly affects YOUR license.
