Setting Up New School Nurse Office

Hi! I am new to the world of school nursing. I will be the first school nurse for my school so I get to start from scratch. We have a very small budget for getting everything and I mean everything for my office. I have been looking at treatment tables and in doing so came across used massage tables mixed in with the used treatment tables. Does anyone know if a massage table could be used as a treatment table? Or does anyone have any tips on other options?

Or any tips on setting up an office in general?

Are you looking for an examining table or a cot for students to rest on for a while before returning to class? Height will make a difference.

Both, I guess. I know I need a place for them to rest but I also need to be able to look at them. Should I just use a chair for that?

Most massage tables are pretty high off the ground I believe, So they dont make really good medical tables. It would be best to get something low to the ground and sturdy. A medical cot or something. You dont want kids falling off the tables and if they do its much better falling 2 feet then 3 feet. However that is just my opinion. Make sure you have a good sink with a moderately wide basin kids make a mess when they wash their hands. Have a cabinet to store medication. Lots of chairs for kids and their monitors to sit in...

i've never had a need for a treatment table. Usually just a chair suffices to clean out a wound or if they're old enough, have them clean it themselves. (Embrace Orem's self care theory!! Embrace it!!) You will need a resting cot though. If you are working with a limited budget, keep in mind that you can also scour the government websites (govdeals and such) and sometimes get one for a steal.

yea i agree, you dont really need a treatment table/cot/bed... I use mine as a makeshift couch, it seats 3 so its like having 3 chairs... Rarely does a child ever need to lay down...
